I meant Bathory, obv.
So? Venom invented Black Metal.Wrong... There are many genres that are country exclusive, like most traditional national music.A country cannot "invent" a genre, it's a mixed effort of many bands from different places.

Venom named the genre, Bathory shaped the sound.
If the album came out today it would not be considered Black Metal but then, it was Black Metal so Venom essentially created Black Metal. Without Venom, there would have been no Bathory.[QUOTE="Martzel94"]Wrong... There are many genres that are country exclusive, like most traditional national music. As for metal, I would have to admit, genres formed are influenced on the sounds of bands from numerous other countries. I'm not saying this goes for all bands or genres however.A country cannot "invent" a genre, it's a mixed effort of many bands from different places.

Indeed, even bands from those countries where influenced by something created in a different place, so it's not like they completely invented it themselves.

No, I am almost certain that is incorrect. Yes, Venom did name the genre, but they are not the sole creators of black metal. I think Bathory themselves said that they did their own thing and even though they are from the same time period, claim that they started the real black metal sound before Venom. Not possible. Nevermore comes from the US. I was mainly talking about the overflow of generic metalcore and nu-metal. Of course bands like Death, Cynic, Agalloch or Sculptured will have my respect but there's so much horrible crap these days that I feel it is the worst.[QUOTE="Lucifericus"]
US is by far the worst.

You make it sound as though no one knows about black metal whatsoever. Venom essentially crafted the shape of the sound and then I'll accept that Bathory perfected the sound. But Venom, I believe, are more responsible for the creation of the genre then Bathory. Anyways this all gets away from the point, metal comes from Britain. You make it sound as though no one knows about black metal whatsoever. Venom's album 'Black Metal' named the genre, nothing else. The sounds and characteristics that define the genre has nothing to do with Venom, because Bathory took it from there. This isn't opinion; it's fact.

Yea Venom's early albums were pretty much "Thrash" with darker lyrics. Although they still played an influential role.Don't forget Decapitated, Vesania, Crionics, Besatt, Witchmaster, Thunderbolt, and Graveland! :PReally hard to pick, so for now my choice is Poland. (Behemoth + Vader)

Are you kidding? Venom's sound made way for the black metal's sound to come through and the characteristics of black metal were heavily influenced by Venom, the lyrical imagry, the "style", etc.[QUOTE="xTheExploited"]

Yeah, Venom was mostly thrash metal. They had some Black Metal elements to their music, but Bathory was much more focused on the actual Black Metal aspect.[QUOTE="dracula_16"]Don't forget Decapitated, Vesania, Crionics, Besatt, Witchmaster, Thunderbolt, and Graveland! :PReally hard to pick, so for now my choice is Poland. I haven't heard of most of those bands. It's not easy when you live under a rock like me.

Yeah, the UK should be there instead of Canada... New wave of British heavy metal anyone?

Venom is one of my favorite bands, I've seen them live twice. I just don't get my opinion confused with facts.
Its just ignorant to say that they didn't have an influence on black metal when they obviously did. Please Log In to post.
