People I know who have had to use this software get it through their school for free. Check with your teacher. You may have missed something telling you where to download a free student edition with your school credentials.

this. it's very common for vendors to provide student versions either for free or at a very steep discount.. it's in the vendor's interest to have you learn on their tools so that when you're working in the industry you ( or your employer ) would purchase the same tools.

Not particulary fond of autoCAD, but I need it to pass this class, so I guess I'm stuck with it.

If you sign up at Autodesk as a student, you can get the full version free of cost.

Why the surprise? All types of design software are ungodly expensive unless you purchase them through student benefits, work benefits, etc.

They're expensive because these are complex programs used to generate wealth.

These are all free in my university. I think the limit is one install per software:

Microsoft Office 2013

Microsoft Project 2013

Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate

AutoCAD 2013

Microsoft Office Mac 2011

Minitab

Maple

ESRI ArcGIS

Go surf your college's Web site.

school classes that often require software offer it to students for free, I remember when I was at University they offered a ton of software to people in computer classes and more they didn't need like entire operating systems

if they don't offer it free they might have a really cheap student version

You can get free versions through school.

The program is expensive cause it's highly complex with thousands of features.

Also, the price companies charge for Autocad jobs is much higher than just one license, so it's justified.

Visual Studios costs around $1000 also, I forget why it's expensive though but try the IT department at school.

Awwww, the legend. Many hours spent browsing GS and other sites in class just to do the calculations manually for the test.

I love how you either get it for free or pay an extortionate amount. The world is a dumb place. Someone put me in charge, please.

If you are a student then you can get the latest full version of autocad for free by signing up as a student on the autodesk website. I use it for my own CAD classes. They only charge for it if you plan to use it commercially.

@Master_Live:

He He. That hurts. Many students still had to use it at one time or another, including yours truly. What a frustrating piece of software. Actually, I didn't even know the original went sooooo far back,
