Poll Are you lonely OT? :( (14 votes)

Yeah, I need some love. 64%
Pfft, nah. I'm awesome and everybody loves me. 36%

I've been working my ass off for the past month and I miss social life. I've been so busy in medical school, with my academics and college activities I barely see my family and my non medical friends.

I don't get along very well with other many people, specially the guys in my major, and I don't like social gatherings. I'm that kind of a person who's not very social and I don't make true friends easily. However, I'm very nice to the point of being boring but I do have some people whom I can call friends, even though they all lack loyalty. I get well enough fine with a couple of friends I can click with, but that's it.

Don't get me wrong, I have a lot of friends in college and I meet a lot of people, but they're all fake.

Meh, Im so lonely OT .. cheer your fellow GS member :(

I'm similar and realized some friends can hold you back from excelling. Well carry on the good work with being a medical student, etc.

Friends who lack loyalty? That's an oxymoron to some extent Op. All I can say is that most medical students go through the same process/stage that you're currently going through, so don't assume that you're the only one. Think of your pinnacle goals and have a positive mindset. You'll meet people in future who will respect you for your personality and will be loyal towards you.

Well stated. TC just be optimistic.

You pretty much described me entirely, only I'm an engineering student. I have a lot of people who I consider more of acquaintances or colleagues, but make very few "real friends" who I see regularly. I guess my personality just doesn't click with people (to be honest I have very little in common with most of them.). I'm usually too busy to think about it anyway.

I'm not lonely, but I'm alone. I like it that way.

Don't worry, OP. That medical degree will pay off. Doctors make tons of money, and assuming that you won't be working too many hours per week, you'll have tons of leisure time to enjoy the company of those who will be attracted by your wealth.

I get lonely sometimes even with family, friends, and a dog. I could use come companionship, but I'm too socially inept to land anyone. And I'm also not very attractive.

I guess. I suppose I'm pretty lonely. It's kind of weird though. Like, 80% of the time I love being alone, being that feels liberating. No one nagging on me or annoying me with their problems or telling me what I should or shouldn't do. And that 80% of the time feels great.

But then there's that 20% of the time when I feel painfully alone. No one to talk to, no one to touch, no one to bounce my ideas off of or give me support.

So...i don't know. It's a mixed bag. Sometimes being alone is great, and sometimes it isn't. Either decide that things are okay the way they are and leave them the same, or decide to make a change and then do things differently.

Like you, I'm not the social type. I stopped caring about trying to make new friends. From personal experience, friendships outside of high school don't last long.

I may be alone, but I'm not lonely. I feel very content by myself.

I haven't made a friend in years... it's just very hard to choose one in such a fast pace world.

I think society places a lot of pressure on people to have lots of friends but its often quite artificial and a lot of people prefer a more quiet and sincere lifestyle - which is perfectly okay if you ask me.
