Are men and women equal?

In terms of physical ability, intelligence, attractiveness,etc. Are we equivalent? And if not, should we be treated as exact equals before the law? As in, both genders have equal responsibility. Like women should be forced to do something that men do normally, and vice versa? Is equality = justice?

Actually I'm kinda asking this cuz yesterday a girl was talking to me about how much better the world would run if it were run by women and that women can do whatever a man can do. I didn't argue back because I want to consider her argument rationally first.

I mean I can easily put up arguments without proof like, men are just as good at cooking as women (e.g. Gordon Ramsay), just as attractive (we don't need make-up), etc. But I think these are foolish arguments that refer to the exception and not the rule.

Well I'm pretty sure women biologically have more fat than muscle to support child birth while men are more muscle based. Basically men are stronger than women. That's not really a reason for men and women to not be treated equally in society though. And I don't really get what your last sentence means. Like women should be forced to be construction workers? Why?

And I certainly don't think the world would be better if it was run by women.

We are equal in the sense that we both deserve the same rights.

Physically are we equal to each other? Usually not, men are usually stronger.

Men are naturally build with more strength. It's generally why we have a higher metabolic rate, muscle = fuel

There are also many double standards, and those are practically impossible to get rid off. Maybe we dont need equality, maybe we should atleast just get rid off the double standards.

I cant tell you how many times i've been discriminated at my job becuz im young and a male. Oh an object that weighs 10 pounds+, some bitch yells at me to come pick it up and i have to stop and drop everything im doing to go do it for her. I've had my woman mangers say to my face shit like "yeah but you are guys, I'll put you guys to do it, im not gonna have the girls that". Then you got the 45+ year old woman and they always have the same excuse "oh you are young and my back hurts", bitch dont you think my back hurts from doing my job and doing all of ya'll bitches job too cuz you bitches never want to do any actual work? But I cant say that, cant i now... Im a "young man", its ok if they abuse me and they dump all the actual work on me. But guess who get all the pay wages raised/increase and get promotions faster than anyone else? the good looking young girls.... those bitches just get handed everything to them.

@BboyStatix: Well in the United States it is more unusual for women with families to not work that it is otherwise. So I guess I disagree with that statement, women don't need to be forced to provide because in large part they already do.

Equal in dignity but much different in ability. I wouldn't say unequal necessarily but there are somethings men can do better than women and things women can do better than men.

Equality=Perception

Men are, generally, able to claim better raw strength without much work. However nothing between a man or woman, legally, should constrict one or the other from pushing their physical ability. Thus the perception of equality, while reality saying no, is enough.

Intelligence? Because of the above this seemed to have the perception of leaning towards women. Reality still has actual say but perception wise, it is enough.

Attractiveness and equality has never mixed well, perception or not.

Women want equality when it suits them when it don't they like to play the card of being a woman. If a woman has the audacity to punch a man the man should have every right to deck her back. Women are manipulative they learn to use what they have to get what they want. Men are only weak when they let the little head in their pants do the thinking for them. Women want to be treated equal but 99% of the time courts will find in their favor when it comes to custody and divorce. The laws are written in their favor. My buddy won $50,000 at the casino 4 days before his divorce was final. He had to split the money with his wife even though they were separated for 6 months. I have a friend paying $400 a week in child support. His ex took him to court and complained to the judge she needed more money and that she needed a new car. She's never had a job all she does is leach off her new husband and ex. I know a few women that got knocked up so they could have a kid and get child support and welfare. They ditched the guys right after getting knocked up. My buddies sister told me the other day she's looking for a sperm donor and that she don't need a man. I had a girlfriend tell me once she was on the pill. I told her so what I'm still using protection I don't need any oops babies. I have better things to do with my money then to give half my paycheck every week to some wench.

equality=/= justice

There should be different laws for both.

We are potentally equal. It is right than usually men are stronger than girls but a individual woman can be stronger than a lot of men and a individual boy can be less stronger than a lots of girls.

Laws might not be the proper word here, you can say obligations. If I say anything, people will call me 'sexist' or 'archaic' or stuff like that so I'd better not.

I think the sooner we start thinking in terms of "men/women need/should" the better. it's "people" or nothing. Never understood this obsession with gender.

If your sister/daughter/ wife want to follow the islam rules she have the right to do it but she or you dont have the right to do that other women follow the islam rules.

All men are not exactly the same either. It should be obvious that all people should be considered equal before the law, which has nothing to do with the attributes of an individual person. Would you feel comfortable having inequalities based on race? Or any other attribute that you can segment the population by? I would hope you wouldn't.

Also, equality has nothing to do with justice, just like application of the law has nothing to do with justice. Justice may or may not be served in any individual case. This is acceptable because the macro rule or principle is more important than any one particular outcome from its application and you cannot design rules to account for every possible nuanced circumstance. If a parent exacts revenge against a pedophile that has abused his or her child, many of us, myself included, might see that as just but it is still against the law.

This whole women and men are equal is a dumb statement. Most women are better at doing some specific tasks that men are terrible at doing. For instance most men are impatient and careless whereas women are patient and precise. And these traits are directly related to the fact that they are woman. Why people try to reduce all the differences between men and women to just their different look and sexuality is beyond me. Man as a gender is a complex creation. Woman as a gender is an even more complex creation. You can't just say that these two creations are equal on every single level.

@chimchargirl: You can say that but it is the exception, not the rule. Men tend to take risks more often and you honestly can't expect a woman to be allocated the same duties as a man in the army. Also I believe they excel in different areas of intelligence. Like mostly men go for engineering (at least that's what I've noticed. I have no statistical proof for this claim)

Yes they are. In fact, minority isn't even the right word. 'Patience' is one of the inherent qualities of the female gender. No matter how much a women seem to be rushing through things, she'd still be more patient than a man. Just common observations.
