I know I am. We seem to be having one tragedy after another somewhere in the world.

First 9/11

Then the wars in the middle east. Then comes this horrible tragedy in Japan and previously in Chile and Indonesia.

I mean common, it seems like some evil forces are playing a silly trick on us sometimes.

I am concerned. Really really concerned. Are you concerned?

Much worse things have happened in the past and much worse things will happen in the future. As far as world history goes the last 20 years has been amazingly lax.

I share some of your concerns. But I remind myself that for generations, it always seemed like the end was near, or at least since the advent of nuclear weapons. I will say that things kinda/sorta "feel" a little different now, but I've only lived a relatively short time, so maybe people have always had this kind of "feeling."

In short, I know what you mean, even if I don't totally agree with it.

No. If any of the stuff you say is true "evil forces" then there's not much we can do. If God is on my side, then who could be against me.

Weve had an incredibly calm time overall in the 1980-2000, this is not anything worse then alot of other things that has happened, nor will happen.

It is not really that odd for ud born in the 80's or 90's to react like this, since it has been faily uncommon for us, but even my parents have seen far worse happen then we have.

It is just the way life go, sometimes things happen, be it nature or human causing it, Life is not safe in itself, nor is the world static.

Fear these things is silly, since the chance of really bad things happening, is quite low, just make sure to help out if bad things happen, not much else to do about it.

Anything else will lead to an early grave due to stress and fear.

Stop letting them placate you and go watch a disaster movie, or CNN.

You're not what? Cherry picking two disasters out of the dozens that have happened in the past decade?

Edit - and wait... wasn't the Japan quake on the 11th?

There are two major things that have me concerned about the future.

One of these is the fact that China has an undemocratic government, the other is peak oil. Besides those two things, the future looks pretty good.

This is nothing compared to what I'm studying in A level history. World War 1 and 2 and the holocaust and Stalin's rise to power is far, far worse than these conflicts in the middle east and the 9/11 terrorist attack. Sure its bad, but we're in a time where we aren't accustomed to mass killing and suffering and terror like back in the 1st half of last century.

depends on what you are talking about. The stuff you mentioned I'm not too worried about given that I have nothing to do with them nor are they really affecting me. On the other hand I do worry about stuff like the environment, getting my own place, living on my own, etc. I mostly worry about stuff that I can either control, or if it affects me, or I'm affecting it.

bad things have always happend. the problem now is that the media seems to constantly make things sound as dismal as possible. look how the media talks about our current war on terror compared to how the media in WW2 times reported. bad thing were done buy the allies in WW2 just as in the war on terror. difference is the media back then did not focus on reporting every little bad thing and today if something bad is done they trry to amplify it and keep it in headlines for as long as possible. being concerned or not concerned will not change whatever is coming for mankind. life you life right and to thr fullest and you have nothing to worry about.......unless u are gonna die a virgin then be very afraid of time running out...lol

9/11 was bad the stuff in Japan is bad..All of it is bad but it happens and has been happening throughout history.

You think we have it bad? Try being a Dinosaur..They got owned by global warming..Volcanos..A big ass asteroid.

Try being the microble life on earth 3 billion years ago when we turned to the ice planet.

Or 15 thousand years ago when the ice age was starting and ended with a comet hitting north america killing a crap load of life(Not proven but viable).

We are not the first on this rock and wont be the last..stop worrying about stuff you can't controll and make the most of it for once.
