Latest Update:] 2:00 pm UPDATE Fox News is noting that the gunman may still be inside the PHX complex. Conflicting reports coming out of Phoenix about the gunmans possible location have not been confirmed by police officers. The suspected gunman may be in his 60s. Initial reports indicate that the man may have been targeting one or more people. The three gunshot victims taken from the Phoenix PHX office building allegedly have life-threatening injuries. The types of injuries that the other five victims suffered are currently unknown. A woman inside the Phoenix PHX building called 911 to report the Arizona workplace shooting. She noted that she was locked inside a closet or small room and could hear people screaming in the outer office. Im not worried about anything. This is a normal everyday occurrence. But (A) if he was a young white male the media would be wagging its finger at the old video game wiping boy. (B) Sarcasm.

2:20 pm UPDATE Police officers now allegedly believe that the Phoenix PHX gunman has left the building. The Arizona office building is reportedly referred to as Phoenix Peak. Some of the offices inside the building reportedly relate to lending, real estate, and the renting of properties. A shooting witness referred to as Rob, had this to say during a KTAR interview: I heard two very loud noises. I thought maybe it was construction something had fallen, I didnt relate it to gunshots at the time. Then someone ran through the office and said there had been a shooting, that here had been a man with two guns. The witness also stated that when he and others came out of an IT closet after hiding for about 20 minutes, he saw two bodies on the floor by a door. The man stated one victim appeared to be dead and another struggling immensely. Don't be fooled by the media hype. There's nothing to fear and nothing to be too concerned about. Life itself is risk and that's how life is. It's all risk.

As for the topic, I'm getting sick and tired of this media hype. They cover random shootings but never shootings in poor neighborhoods or gang-infested areas.

8-9k gun deaths in the US,  nearly 13k something over all last year. If you would hear about every single one, you would be constantly paranoid.

Yes, so more than once a day somebody get shot and killed. However it's usually gang related or happen in poor areas and doesn't leave the local news. Most of the rest that aren't gang-related are not just random acts of violence. Rather they are somebody targeting somebody else they know. Somewhere like 90% of murders are people killing people they know.

Also, we have 341 million people living in the US (that's including illegals and whatnot, just total number of people here). Your chances of getting murdered are very slim. You have a much better chance of getting hit by a drunk driver (like 35k drunk driving deaths last year) than getting murdered.

There used to be this problem in many sports venues in the US.  Unruly fans would race onto the field and disrupt the game.  The cameras would all pan to them and they'd be soaking in the attention.  Then, all the sports networks and venues, made a smart decision.  If any fan ran onto the field, there would be no media coverage of it.  They would wait until security grabbed the guy and then resume the broadcast.  Since then, these disruptions have all but ceased to happen.  Maybe the media could learn something about this from how they cover shootings.  STOP FCKING immortalizing these shooters and splashing their picture across the country.  It seems to encourage others.

We should legalize gunblades.

You're demonstrating the same lack of empathy that these mass shooters have. People in your country should lock you up.

But the media wants ratings, they want these types of things to keep happening because it leads to better ratings.

Obligatory Charlie Brooker Newswipe video dealing with this problem

I don't know why people are so surprised at all the shootings. There are multiple shootings EVERY DAY round the US, there always have been. Nothing has changed. There are not more shootings now all of a sudden, it's just the media is reporting them because the want the ratings and thats whats hot right now.

I once thought that banning or restricting guns was a solution, but now I don't think so, because that would leave law abiding citizens at a disadvantage. Perhaps we need armed guards everywhere, or more police officers.

I agree.

#43 Posted by Squeets (8184 posts) -

The gunman, identified by neighbors as Jimmy Lee Dykes, a 65-year-old retired truck driver, was known around the neighborhood as a menacing figure who once beat a dog to death with a lead pipe, threatened to shoot children for setting foot on his property and patrolled his yard at night with a flashlight and a shotgun.

Crazy Alabama Gun Enthusiast

Clearly it was self defense against a tyranical government.  How can this man expect to live without his 2nd amendment when the communist muslim kenyan government is imposing a police state upon him and infiltrating his private property with child suicide bombers?

Why cover gang shootings? Beligerants who hate each other try to kill each other? How is that news? What is news, however, is a crazed man shooting innocent people seemingly at random...

He's getting at the fact that you can follow a persons mindset of gangfights, however in the case of the more recent mass shooting at the school, you have even experts stumped.

There's nothing to be stumped about in regard to people who commit mass shootings; they get butthurt, grab a gun or two, and vent their frustrations on random people. As for the gang shootings, sometimes there are innocent bystanders that get hit by stray bullets. Don't they deserve news coverage?

Well, a gang shooting is not going to outrage suburban America much. A while school shooting will. You have to understand that media corporations are not here to report the news. That's not their job. It's to deliver loaded agitprop and make billions out of sensation, public outrage and the rape of the public's emotions.
