What do you think of actresses that have gone nude, semi-nude (topless), or have shown their private parts on film? What about those that have shown their private parts in public as a result of dressing scantily and suffering a subsequent wardrobe malfunction? What I'm referring to in regard to the latter situation are cases in which an actress attends a public event in a skimpy dress while wearing no bra or panties, and because they (accidentally) position themselves a certain way, the world gets a full blown shot of their privates. Do you consider these actresses trashy/ classless? Do you lose respect for them when these things happen? For me, it depends on the frequency at which they go nude on film and/ or the extent of the nudity in a particular shot. For example, though I admire Anne Hathaway's acting ability, I think she's shown her boobs far too often on film.
In "Havoc" (2005) she acted out a sex scene in which her boobs were visible, and in"Love and Other Drugs" she acted out a scene in which she pulls out one of her breasts and has it examined by a doctor (the manner in which it was done was very gratuitous).
In addition to these two scenes, she recently suffered a wardrobe malfunction in which her crotch was revealed to the world because she made the conscious choice to not wear panties. In light of these incidents, I think that Anne Hathaway is trashy, though still a good actress.

I'm indifferent in that I don't think their behavior is worthy of moral praise or blame. However, I personally do appreciate them for obvious reasons.

There's an actress by the name of Piper Perabo, whom I first saw in "The Prestige". I found the character she played in that film to be quite likeable; she portrayed the character - beautiful and sexy - without being trashy. However, in "Looper" she plays a showgirl and goes practically fullblown nude. I liked the shot, but lost respect for her. Shame. By the way, "Looper" is a good film. Check it out.

that's a weird backhand kinda comment. half the time i wanna be the participant with the ladies :P

I like it usually.
#20 Posted by SaudiFury (8707 posts) -

I should say one thing though. in one mainstream film there is one scene that has still stuck with me as vey out of place. That is from the movie Munich. where the lead is having sex with his wife, and they keep flashing back to the failed hostage rescue attempt at the airport in Germany while he's in the middle of intercourse. That didn't match at all. and it still struck as really wrong to have done that.

the only like thing is between those two would excitement/adrenaline, but those are two very different events and the feelings that come from those events.

hathaway has great boobs if it is a necessary part of the story to include nudity then i dont see what problem anyone could possibly have with it

I don't find them to be trashy because they're having sex, but because they're doing so on camera and for money, both of which are quite trashy. Obviously, as a male, I enjoy watching it, but that doesn't mean that I consider it a classy thing to do.

IDK but they must think we are really stupid if they think flashing their crotches was an accident.

You enjoy what they do, but you look down on them for doing it. Basically you're a hypocrite.

If anything, it's a compliment to an actress's acting ability. I feel that women who can act while nude have a greater range of skill than those who can't or don't feel comfortable.
#27 Posted by jimkabrhel (15420 posts) -

If it's important to the story, why not? Nudity shouldn't be such a taboo. I'm not saying that I want to see naughty bits out on the street, but it's not such a big deal on TV and on film.

#28 Posted by Whiteblade999 (5537 posts) -

In movies its absolutely fine, I don't think less of the person because in a lot of cases the nudity fits the movie and why the hell would I be bothered by someone showing off something completely natural?

In real life obviously the person should try to keep themselves covered, but if something happens and others can see the boobs or the crotch then that sucks for them. I'm not gonna think less of a person for not wearing a bra or undergarments all the time, because there are times when I don't even bother with wearing boxers (which have little support at all to begin with) in the summer...

if the nudity is important for the film and the film is saying something worthwhile, then i don't consider it the same as walking around without underwear and flashing people.

Sometimes I wonder what does an actor think when he's offered a full frontal or unsimulated sex scene. It's a potential career destroyer. Or it makes a star out of someone.

F*cking Spielberg. Munich has some well-done nudity scenes (including male nudity) but that scene... I get what it was aiming for but it was awful.

It doesn't bother me, nudity that is, but I generally can't take a woman seriously who can't do anything besides sell sex.

#33 Posted by XilePrincess (13130 posts) -
There is nothing wrong with nudity, if the role has a scene that nudity may be part of, so be it. If the actress is okay with it, far be it from me to judge. Just have to ask though, have you, OP, ever tried to wear anything similar to what these women are wearing when they have wardrobe malfunctions? Remember, firstly, they don't dress themselves. Stylists dress them, they push them to wear sexy and skimpy outfits because that is the trend. Secondly, you can't really wear panties of much substance under a hell of a lot if it's skintight, you get panty lines like mad. As for bras... Are you looking at these dresses? Most of the time you'd never get away with more than nipple pasties because they're strapless, low cut, no back, cutout or all sorts of other things. Nothing that well hides a bra. Beyond that, it's hard as HELL getting out of a car in a dress and keeping it where you want it, undies or no undies. If you attempt to keep it covered and something peeks out...not really your fault. If a regular woman who didn't have a hundred cameras shoved in her face and up her dress had a little slip as she was getting out of a vehicle, NOBODY WOULD EVER KNOW. It's a little pathetic to judge somebody on something that could happen to ANYONE just because somebody was there hoping a malfunction would happen and they could catch it on film. The "world" wouldn't get any shot of my privates if I exited a vehicle the wrong way, because nobody is photographing me hoping to sell that to a magazine and make me look like some trashy pig.

There is hardly any nudity or simulating sex scenes in recent movies. Most of recent actresses hardly go nude in movies.

You should see Madonna's Body of Evidence, Demi Moores Indecent Proposal, Sharon Stones Basic Instinct. Majority of actresses from 70's, 80's and 90's really loved doing nude or love making scenes with a passion.

Dammit. You've totally ruined my perception of Anne Hathaway. ...I might have to search for those scenes now, though.

Why would you lose respect for her? She didn't write the nude scene into the movie. She simply agreed to do what the director thought was required for the role. Seriously, why lose respect for the actress? It's not like she showed up on set and suddenly decided to get naked. And then the rest of the cast and crew were like, "woah, take it easy. We're trying to keep this classy." But then the actress is like, "man, f*** that. You're gonna film my boobs right now, I demand it." And then the director is like, "well, if she says so, we have to obey. After all, we've gotta do everything the actress says." Exactly how do you think movies work? Sure, an actress can refuse to go nude. Which will either result in her losing the job, or her demands being met. But in either case, nude Piper Perabo isn't Piper Perabo showing up on set and saying "weee...let's show off our t*t$, ladies!" The CHARACTER is nude, usually for some reason (not necessarily a good reason, but usually not just "nude at random"). If there's something wrong with that, then why point the finger at the actress? Point the finger at the writer who wrote a nude scene into the movie, and point the finger at the director who's demanding that an actress get nude.

This is why I make sure to always wear a pair of cutoffs so I'm never in the nude.

There's nothing wrong with art and showing your body, but woman seem to be required to do it far more than men in the movies.
