@silkylove: we hear this stuff an europe and are thinking this is becoming the normal for US

Racial violence has been the normal in America since before America was a country.

That and just overall violence

Less than half an hour ago, president Obama gave one of the most powerful speeches of his presidency and possibly in the history of television. He gave a sense of urgency, but is composed, like he is in the eye of the storm, so to speak.

He suddenly started singing Amazing Grace.

The power of this speech is the recognition of the situation in America for black people and all those who have been oppressed, the fact that he is the president saying this, and the fact that he is the first black president of the United States. It was a very Christian speech. He explained the grace expressed by church members towards Dylann Roof despite their grief and anger, and made that a point of interest for his speech.

He talked about the history of racial violence towards African Americans and in particular, black churches in America, and the confederate flag as more than a simple of heritage and valor, but also of honoring slavery and how racial violence and slavery are unjust causes.

President Obama called on God's grace to show how the shooter's actions are being used in a way that he did not realize was possible. Addressing how racial disparity is not something which shall be corrected overnight or through conversation as we have had many, he made a strong call to action.

It was an impressive speech.

Racism is over guys! We did it!

Are you 12? Way to miss the point. If you are going to continue to dwell on the past then you will never move forward.

And if you want to pretend the past is just the past and in no way informs the present, you willfully blind yourself to the problems of today.

It's funny because corporate media pundits, and their fans, have no problem labeling terrorists what they are; "terrorists". And they do so without any regard for possible mental illness. These propagandists could have easily done the same here by labeling this filth a terrorist; except...they didn't - at least not without considering his mental well being. I reckon that engendering resentment toward Muslims would be difficult if so many of the terrorists who are victimizing the US population were White American males. So instead, you don't call the White terrorists, "terrorists". You call them something else; 'gunmen with mental issues'. And you don't blame ideology or culture, like you would with Muslims. Instead, you blame medical care, lol. Shameful propaganda, but effective.

This is an excellent account of the matter, hats off.

Why, thank you.

OT's top intellectual, people.

The race war cometh. Time will tell if Charlie Manson was right about who would win.

Personally, I think there will be no winners.
