Well I saw this movie this weekend at the I max and it was good fun. I thought I'd share my opinion on this movie and compare it to two similar movies I enjoyed over the years as well, which are Troy and Gladiator. I'll make this as short as possible.
First off 300 was a great movie. The fighting was great and the CG was off the hook.
Positives of 300: Great CGI, nice slomo effects, great character variety and portrayal.
Downsides of 300: Story was good, but not as moving or emotional as say gladiator.
Positives of Gladiator: Storyline has you rooting for the hero from the beginning. Plot attaches you to the hero in a way that 300 didn't really accomplish.
Downsides: I honestly can't find one but if you have one feel free to list it please.
Positives of Troy: The best positive for this movie is the Hector vs. Achilles battle. All the slow in the world couldn't replicate the intensity of a well choreographed real time battle.
Negatives: Orlando bloom is pretty fruity in here. Also some of the acting was cheesy at times if you know what I mean.
In a nut shell the perfect movie along these lines in my opinion would have a great and moving story like gladiator, awesome cgi effects and character portrayal of 300, and at least one amazing one on one battle with great choreography.
