I was hoping for someone different (i.e. a woman), but I like the choice. He's a very good actor, and will bring a different dynamic as an older man.

Yeah all the Doctors in the new series have been sort of quirky and high-energy, I wonder if that's going to change and how much.

I don't see it changing too much honestly. Even just in that reveal show, he seemed to have a lot of energy. I'm looking forward to the new Doctor, though Matt Smith will forever be MY Doctor. Also, random funny fact, Peter Capaldi played a character credited as a "WHO Doctor" in the recent World War Z film. I don't believe it was connected to Doctor Who, but it's kinda regardless.
Am I the only one who has never watched Dr Who?Nuck81It's good.
From the most recent series I would recommend watching Asylum of the Dalecks and The Angels take Manhatten. Both excellent episodes.
Funny fact. It's considered a family show in the UK but in Japan it has a late night air time and so has Japanese viewers confused as they don't realize it is a family show.
As a result every time I watch Dr Who I'm always thinking about Japanese viewers and what they must think of it.
Yes, and it makes you a terrible person. Bow your head in shame sir, for you shall never learn why wearing a Fez is cool.Sallah did for the Fez what Dr Jones did for the Fedora
Am I the only one who has never watched Dr Who?spike6958

If you like Doc Who i'd suggest you have a look around for a couple of other good British TV shows.
Â
I'd start with Utopia http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2384811/?ref_=sr_1
Â
And also Black Mirror http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2085059/?ref_=sr_1
Â
Word of warning however both are not really for kids.
I've never watched Dr. Who, but it looks interesting, where should I start?

Asylum of the Daleks or The Angles Take Manhattan are some of the best modern episodes.
If you want to understand everthing you should start from series 1, 'Rose' but the first series is very meh, it really gets good series 2.

Seems a far more interesting choice than recent actors to play the part.

Haven't seen that film, but I'd guess WHO is World Health Organisation.
Â
Still, fun find.Â

I've been watching Docor Who since the early 80s on PBs in the US, but I can understand, since it's geared towards kids, that many here would find it boring.
I saw the first two episodes of the newer series on netflix and thought it was pretty boring.

Do you mean the series as in the franchise as a whole starting with the baldish guy (forgetting his name right now) or as in the latest season that's on Netflix, because in the UK series=season.

I checked netflix, the episodes were Rose and The End of the World. It had a doctor who who had short hair and was kinda weird and a blonde girl.
I would give it another shot. I thought the first season was kinda rough, after the first season it just gets better and better

There are definitely some better episodes, but if you skip ahead you might be a little lost (unless you skip all the way ahead to Matt Smith's time, but I honestly think Tennant's episodes are the best).
2 of the best shows I've seen ever but It's nothing like Doctor Who both are hyper stylized and cynical with dark humorÂ

Watch The Angles take Manhattan
Aren't there major spoilers in that episode? Â I haven't seen it yet, but I think I accidentally caught on to what happened and wouldn't it pretty much spoil every episode going back to Matt Smith's first? Â I would probably reccomend older episodes like The Impossible Planet/The Satan Pit, Human Nature/The Family of Blood, Blink, or Slinence in the Library/Forest of the Dead. Â Actually, Blink is an awesome episode that pretty much doesn't spoil anything, I think that's a great place to start if you're not sold on the series.

Yeah there are spoliers, but it's pretty obvious what those spoilers are and it doesn't go all the way back to matts first. Also, the episode is almost a year old, so most people will have seen it by now.Â
It might have only aired recently in the US though, i'm not sure.
The Impossible Planet/Satan Pit were very good, but not the best.
Human Nature/Family of Blood were excellent, very original.
Blink was also very cool/original.
Silence in the Libray was okay, but River Song is really annoying.

Well, I mean...
Amy and Rory die, right, so basically if you go back and watch any Matt Smith episode up to that point you basically know the outcome, save for that other episode where Rory died. Â I guess TV show endings aren't all that surprising anyways, but still.
I don't watch Docter Who but that guy is a great actor :)
Mods remove that video if you don't think it's alright to have on Gamespot.Â
Get your sexist, racist ass and gtfoAnother white male lead for Doctor Who...This series is just making me like it less and less.

Anyone who wants to see if the show's good at all should probably just watch "Blink." Simple standalone episode. If you don't like that episode, don't bother with the show.PannicAtack
Yep.
I just found out that Peter Capaldi was in a punk band with Craig Ferguson called "Bastards from Hell". Awesome.
