I believe you would still connect to the NA servers.

So you mean that i won't be able to connect my american 3ds to the japanese network when i play online multiplayer in Japan? Which means that I can't play against japanese players?

If your going to be living in Japan, why not invest in a Japanese 3DS? If your only visiting, why worry about it?

I am gonna live in Japan, but I'm trying to find a better solution so that I won't have to buy another 3ds along with the japanese version of the same games that i already have. If I could be able to connect to the Japanese network with my American 3ds then that would solve almost everything for me and I wouldn't have to buy another 3ds.

Can't you change the 3DS' region settings? I did, from UK, to New Zealand. Change it to Japan, doozo.

These are the 3DS's regions for it's region lock: NTSC-U (North America, Singapore, Malaysia and the Philippines), PAL (Europe and Oceania), NTSC-J (Japan, Hong Kong and Taiwan), South Korea, China So when changing the region setting on a 3DS you can only change it to another country that is within the same region that the 3DS was brought in. So since Japan is in a different region to America you can not change an American 3DS to Japan.

I am now much better informed. Thank you, sensei.

I am going to be in Japan in not too long so I guess I can test this out in person. I got a feeling it's gonna just connect to the NA servers but who knows.
