I like it, sounds fun. I usually like attacking people who stand up on the tall platforms to spot for snipers or attack the snipers. Will be fun to fight over the tower. It sounds unique, kinda like a mix between capture the flag and king of the hill.

So not only are we limited in our map selection, but we also limited to just one ranked mode game type every 4 hours?
Nintendo......why?
@Wild_man_22: Its to keep people from camping maps. Some maps are easier to get experience than others. And some are better for certain weapons/cloths, so having certain maps to play makes you say, ok, im gonna use these weapons and cloths for these maps.
I played the new mode today. It's really fun! It's definitely a new way to play the game. I like how distinct the three modes are. I won all of my matches :)
On my very first match, the enemy got down to 2 units left, then we recaptured the tower and rode it all the way to victory just before the timer ran out.
@mesome713: Um what's the point of forcing me to play tower control? What if I want to play splat zone instead? I have to wait 4 hours for rotation? I dont care about map rotation. But when i am forced to choose from only two modes, when the game has three to choose from is idiotic.
Just another dumb decision with this game from Nintendo.
After spending more time with Tower Control, my early concern is that sticky bombs are OP. People can throw them onto the center piece and it just destroys everyone on it. There is no place to hide. Bombs and whatnot are okay because they're hard to land and you can somewhat hide on the other side of the pole. Stickies on the other hand just stick right up there and just destroy everything on there. I think to fix this they need to make it so the explosive radius doesn't cover the entire region (i.e make it so you can hide on the other side of the pole and it won't damage you, giving you at least a chance at getting away). Either that, or at least some other nerf.
This is only an initial concern, it might not be OP after we play the mode some more and figure out more tactics.

Yeah mate, i guess some will not understand it it seems. Its ok, you can find yourself another game. Thanks for troIIing on our forums mate, very respectful.
@mesome713: Giving a criticism=trolling. Got it. You can only play 1 type of ranked game mode every 4 hours...and you have no idea when the mode will be up.
want to play splatfest? Too bad tower defense is only available.
want to play tower defense? Sorry it's splatfest for the next 4 hours.
How is that good design? Imagine after they add rainmaker. possibly 8 hours to play to the mode you want? maybe even more?
@Wild_man_22: I told you why they change the maps and yet you still ask why and then say its dumb even though you didnt understand why? How can it be dumb if you dont understand it?
@mesome713: but still, it is a draw back. I didn't know I had to wait 4 h to play tower or zone. And sometimes it would be fun if it had more maps on rotation.
It would also be fun to play all those online mode offline with bots or with friends but nope.
@Coco_pierrot: I agree, everything seems to have been stripped to increase the lifespan of the game. To me it has the opposite effect, everything feels like you are doing it 5 times in a row. Its like Nintendo wasnt confident in its product to put it all out there
@mesome713: Its still terrible game design, the reason that its so people dont camp maps just means they made bad maps and they tried to cover it up
@the_funyarinpa: No mate, its to make it more fun and versatile. It gets old playing the same map over and over again. We want a change, something fresh, we dont want that boring stuff other shooters have, they camp maps like crazies. Switching the maps helps give incentive to change your stats and compete with your team better.
@mesome713: Allow me to point out all the flaws with that theory;
"It gets old playing the same map over and over again"
If there are two maps on rotation, you end up playing the same map 5 times in a row. If they really wanted to make it so you dont play the same map, they would make all the maps available and then randomly select the stage. I have played the same maps multiple times in a row...
"We want a change, something fresh, we dont want that boring stuff other shooters have, they camp maps like crazies"
If the core gameplay is good and fresh, why does Nintendo need to restrict content in order for people to return to the game. If the game is good people will comeback without Nintendo locking content and treating everyone as if they will get bored with the game unless it is constantly changing and abuse areas. If you can abuse an area, then they did a bad job designing the map.
"Switching the maps helps give incentive to change your stats and compete with your team better."
While it is true that different maps call for different strategy, this does not mean all the maps should be locked out... If all the maps were available and randomly selected, the maps would always be changing and you would rarely see the problem that is constant right now of playing the same map over and over enough to get comfortable and camp. And also if Nintendo wanted you to compete with the team better, they would have included voice chat just saying
@the_funyarinpa: If they didnt rotate maps people would camp the same maps over and over forcing people to play the same maps cause the other maps would never get played. Would cause a bunch of maps to have low population.
Rotating maps keep everyone on same page. Sure playing same maps 5 times in a row might be a lot, but its a lot better then playing the same map 500 times in a row.
Nintendos techniques will be copied by other shooters no doubt, watch.
i think the map and mode design is for the lobbies to fill up faster.
splatoon requires 4v4 mandatory. its not like call of duty where you can play 3 on 4 or 3 on 3...
its to keep everyone in the same lobby...
it also works as a unique mechanic as mesome says.
@mesome713: they should do the Mario Kart 8 online race selector, throw a bunch of maps, choose then let the fate decide which one it will be. This is fun ! Heck again in MK8 they have an offline mode where you can choose to limite items, play in teams, randomize the maps you'll play.
They would've done that and the game would be a 9/10 for sure.
I get it that they unlock stuff to be sure people will be playing it all summer long but still, they should've learn from MK8.

How would people be playing the same map 500 times in a row? If they just put all the maps out there and had it randomly selected each time then you wouldnt be playing the same map over and over... The rotation was a bad idea, if shooters start copying this, kill the genre right now

Now that could work. Would just have to have a way to switch weapons quickly, most would not want to wait though for people to select weapons, it would take some people forever.
So lets say the Tower level is selected randomly, then all the sudden we have a 5 min wait for everyone to pick weapons and clothes, you would grab some defense stuff, maybe get a little offense, dont have to worry about Ink speed to much, you wont be swimming much on Tower level.
@KBFloYd is right also, Nintendo is just trying to make the game more competitive, and also quick, cause quickness on these type of competitive games is VERY important, people want to play NOW. Lets go, im ready to shoot. I want to paint your turf!

because Nintendo is dumb as ****. I've said this so many times. Don't let anyone tell you different. They're so anti-consumer that they're giving EA a run for their money.
@jcrame10: Maybe in your head they are, but to others, Nintendo is the best. Stop crying, go play something else, yall act like the biggest crybabies i have ever seen in gaming. Thank the Gods yall aint Nintendo fans.
@mesome713: I would be ok with commiting to your gear or if you want to change your gear do like ( again ) MK8 where they will force you into choosing after a few second so you don't wait like idiot for 5 min.

They would obviously have a time limit for selecting items...
@Coco_pierrot: It could work if made it quick to select like MK8. I think they will just shorten the wait time to like an hour or two after they get more maps to play. They are also testing things out, this is Nintendos first time doing a competitive team based shooter, but i think they have done great with it so far. Dont forget we still got a bunch more stuff to come.
@mesome713: Not a Nintendo fan? HA!
@jcrame10: Yeah Just sucks, Splatoon is such a great game. And thankfully I like both modes. But this is just such an inconvenience to people who only have a limited amount of time to play. Or just want to play a specific ranked mode. Are people really going to have to wait 8 hours to play a mode they want, when there is three different modes? Hopefully they change it in august.
@Wild_man_22: How can one be a Nintendo fan when all they do is hate on Nintendo stuff, and then got the balls to call Nintendo "dumb as ****" when clearly showing signs of lacking common sense?
Hop on Miiverse and see all the fans complaining about the game. Not sure what Nintendo is thinking, clearly people are unhappy with the games limits. They are all quitting in droves, they say, im waiting till something better come to Splatoon.
@mesome713: Not a Nintendo fan? HA!
Ignore him, he would buy shit in a case if they released it on Wii U.

Nintendo is dumb, but I honestly want to believe they are not THAT dumb. There is no way in hell they would be stupid enough to continuously add a 4-hour penalty whenever a new game mode is revealed and unlocked. That would be insanity.

if people are complaining on Miiverse, you'd never see it anyways because of how thirsty Nintendo is to "clean up" posts and remove content they deem to be "inappropriate">

So the conspiracy begins. I was wondering what was taking so long. You so wise Senpai.
@mesome713: How is this a conspiracy when its a known fact? Haha I've posted stuff before like "has anyone played Project M?" and "anyone in here have mic or skype? wanna party up in mario kart?" both were removed.
Call the cops mate, youre being censored, and that aint right. You need to warn the world of this, Nintendo has joined the Dark Side. Quick, before more fall victim.
@mesome713: Seriously go into the Splatoon forum right now. Post something about mics, Skype, or anything involving voice chat/partying up. I bet your post will get removed.
You need to make a forum on this mate, the world must know of this evil.

Seriously Miiverse is designed to be Nintendo's own version of a social media platform where fans can discuss the games they play, yet you will get posts removed that encourage meeting new friends and partying up/voice chat. How can anyone defend this?!
@mesome713: So you're admitting this is true and now just acting like a cock because you have nothing else to say about it. When in reality, it's ANTI-FUCKING-CONSUMER AND NINTENDO IS DUMB AS ****, AS I ALWAYS SAY.
Check and mate, Nintendrone.
Dont just cry, do something. Stop being the victim and start living.
