Remakes of Game Boy Advance games Pokémon Ruby and Pokémon Sapphire are coming to the 3DS. The Pokémon Company announced today that Pokémon Omega Ruby and Pokémon Alpha Sapphire will arrive worldwide in November 2014, only on 3DS.

The Pokémon Company describes the games as a "fresh take" on the originals, which debuted more than a decade ago in 2003. "The new titles promise to take players through a dramatic story within a spectacular new world," the company said.

I never played this generation so I'll definitely be picking it up this time around. It's a November 2014 world wide release.

I'm almost surprised that the made these. I was expecting another Kalos game before Ruby/Sapphire remakes. But I guess Game Freak went with these because they know that Gen 3 has an enormous and avid fanbase (some people are shitting themselves over on PokeCommunity) and wants to capitalize on that. I'm curious to see if these are gonna be remakes, sequels, prequels, or something else. I also hope that move tutors will return, and that they'll keep character customization and expand on it. And better story is needed.

Are Groudon and Kyogre getting mega evolutions or new forms or what?

I wish they'd have given us a little more info....

@ANIMEguy10034: It's not THAT exciting is it? :P

Ah, who am I kidding, this is awesome news.

I remember playing these back when I was only allowed to get a few games a year. Spent a ridiculous amount of time on Gen 3, so many good memories!

I hope they bring back Emerald's amazing Battle Frontier - it was the best one by far!

"Game is in 2D, some areas also playable in 3D"

Well that's the most disappointing part of today's news. Seems like turning on the 3D still causes frame rate issues, forcing them to limit its use to certain smaller areas, like in XY.

What disappoints me looking back on my blog, is that we're most likely not going to have seasons added to the game after all since they didn't bother to add it to XY.

@Pixel-Perfect: Hopefully they do randomly decide to include seasons again. Seasons and clothing customization works so well together because it'll give us an excuse to change our appearance every month. It'll be a real shame if they still don't take advantage of it.

Speaking of which, I really hope they expand the clothing selection.

Yes, great idea Nintendo. Bring back the gen that ruined Pokemon. The series is still recovering from the massive crap 3rd gen dumped all over it, and now they're doing it again.

I have no interest in these. They were the worst Pokémon games ever made so why Gamefreak would decided to screw up like this I'll never get. And calling them NEW? Really.

Cool! I was really hoping Nintendo would announce a Ruby/Sapphire remake, it just kind of feels like the right time.

But it's interesting because this sounds like it won't be just a remake, but also kind of a...sequel? Or something. The descriptions of the game keep talking about "exploring a new world", which makes me think that this game will actually not be a remake at all, but a continuation of events in the Hoenn region. Or, at the very least, a remake with a completely overhauled Hoenn. Or maybe a remake, but with a ton of new content.

Whatever the case is, I was anticipating this announcement and I'm excited about it. I will probably get Omega Ruby since I tend to like Groudon, even though I usually tend to lean towards the Water-types. I don't presently expect to make too many big game purchases this year, but I think this is one of those games that's kind of a must for me.

I still have quite a bit of work to do on Y version. But this announcement is exciting because there's a lot Nintendo could probably do with this remake/sequel. I'm hoping that they'll try to keep that single player experience at the forefront this time around, and maybe even give us a bit more challenge and content. But at any rate, I don't think a R/S remake is a bad thing.

It would be really cool if these games expanded trainer customization with age options. Even if it's just a simple child, teen, and adult option, similar to Battle Revolution. The vast majority of those excited for these remakes/sequels are the adults who experienced them 12 years ago. We explored Hoenn as kids back in 2002, and now we're exploring it again as adults, both physically and virtually.

Great to hear. 3rd gen Pokemon was the first ones I really got into overall and actually cared what I did in the game. This news also reminds me I need to go back and finish Pokemon X/Y.

@ANIMEguy10034: At the very least, they won't regress on that front. All prior remakes expanded heavily on the features of their gen, rather than remove them. With FR/LG, it was visuals, compatibility and wireless gameplay. With HG/SS they took advantage of the touch screen in huge ways and came up with the single best UI Pokemon has ever had as a result, on top of the partner Pokemon thing that technically came from yellow. Customization was a huge part of X and Y, along with online play and improved pacing. I like where this is going myself.

Lovin' the polarity here. Everyone's either losing their minds over this or screaming about how they hate Gen 3. lol

That would be great. You'd think that Game Freak would understand that a large part of Pokémon's fanbase is people who are now over 18, so....

Also, more clothing options would be fantastic. Trainer customization was one of the things that I liked the most about X/Y, and I'd love it if they'd expand on that.

And ORAS better have lots of post-game content. That was something about X/Y I really didn't like; the lack of post-game content.

This is cool, but i'm a little bummed that it's not coming out for the next nintendo handheld, X an Y's graphics leave a lot to be desired, though maybe they can improve them for this game. X and Y kinda look like DS ports.

3rd gen is my favorite so i'd want it to be the best it can be, plus I don't own a 3ds because I don't like anything about the hardware.

Still I might pick up a dirt cheap 2DS down the line for sapphire because Sapphire > Ruby ;)

OK, so some info for you people who are crazy enough to actually like 3rd gen.

Iwata has confirmed in an Investor Briefing today that the games are indeed full remakes of Ruby and Sapphire, and the Japanese branch of The Pokemon Company has sent out a message to all Daisuki Club members, stating that the box art Pokemon are "never before seen Pokemon", which happens to be the same description they gave to Black Kyurem, White Kyurem, and Mega Mewtwo Y, when each of these where revealed, so it's likely that the box art Pokemon are indeed Mega Groudon and Mega Kyogre.

Pokemon Get TV just showed some footage of the games, but it was so short both could be compressed into a single gif.

It was basically Groudon coming out of the ocean and using Drought. Same with Kyogre, but Kyogre used Drizzle. The footage was not even a direct feed, the camera was about a foot away from the 3DS screen.

EDIT:

The Pokemon youtube channel has uploaded a direct feed, but with no sound.

Loading Video...

Well, that left me unimpressed. Thanks, Gamefreak, I guess. :L

Hopefully the coro coro leaks will offer more.

I feel like more people will buy Omega Ruby, so go with Alpha Sapphire to balance the demographics a bit. :P

But yeah, either version will deliver the same Hoenn goodness.

We better be able to catch Deoxys and Jirachi in game now.. (but mostly deoxys :p)

It's BS that you couldn't catch Celebi in HG/SS or Mew in FR/LG. What was ever the point of making these pokemon so hard to get in the first place?

I don't really know the difference but I'm guessing it's minor like most Pokemon games. This generation is the only one that I missed out on so I'm excited to see what it's all about. Actually, I skipped Black 2/White 2 as well but eh.
