Original wii virtual console still usable?

Can you still use an old wii and buy games from the virtual console shop?

I'm not 100% sure, but what I can say is that I bought a VC game through the Wii emulator on the Wii U about a week or so ago. So I assume it should still be possible.

I ported 9 wii virtual console and wi ware games from the wii to wii u and they all work. I have not made any new purchases for wii on the wii u. Games that I ported include: Arkenoid Plus! (Wii Ware), Bejeweled 2 (Wii Ware), Bingo Party Deluxe (Wii Ware), Dig Dug (Virtual Console), Frogger Returns (Virtual Console), Jewel Keepers: Easter Island (Wii Ware), LostWinds (Wii Ware), Word Searcher Deluxe (Wii Ware), and Star Soldier R. I want to get one of the Golden Axe games, Black Tiger, Ghouls and Ghosts, and Ghosts and Goblins.
