I haven't played Nintendo since the N64 days and I wanted to get back into playing Nintendo games. I was wondering which has a better selection of platform games upcoming and present? Any help and input would be greatly appreciated.

Wii U easily. You've got New Super Mario Bros. U + Super Luigi U, Rayman Legends, and Super Mario 3D World out right now, PLUS you've got Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze coming out early 2014. Then with backwards compatibility you have access to the great Wii platformers like Super Mario Galaxy 1 & 2, Donkey Kong Country Returns, and New Super Mario Bros. Wii :)

@ttualumni13 pretty much said it best. I really can't think of anything outside of Mario 3D Land and NSMB2 on 3DS. I'm sure that there are a few others but not as good as what you can get between the Wii and Wii U library.

Overall, I think the Wii U has better platformers:

  • Rayman Legends (Wii U) > Rayman Origins (3DS)
  • Super Mario 3D World (Wii U) > Super Mario 3D Land (3DS)
  • (I assume) Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freese (Wii U) > Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D (3DS)
  • New Super Mario Bros. U (and New Super Luigi) > New Super Mario Bros. 2 (and the DLC)

There is also Yarn Yoshi for Wii U coming up, and Kirby Triple Deluxe and Yoshi's New Island for 3DS.

But, you can't really go wrong with either system.

Thanks for the positive feedback guys. I was leaning towards the Wii U and this solidifies my choice I think. Cheers!
