i pre-ordered the new 3ds xl and am new to the 3ds (never owned a ds or dsi). the last nintendo handheld i played was the gameboy color when i was a kid. the games i got for the 3ds so far are pokemon omega ruby and mario kart 7 and i'm also planning on getting super smash bros, pokemon y, and maybe zelda majora's mask. are there any games you guys recommend for a 1st time 3ds owner?

@barry000: monster Hunter 4 ultimate comes out Feb 13 just like Zelda. It will consume my life to the tune of 500-1000 hours over the next 2 years. You should DEFINITELY give it a try. It's either a hate it or LOVE LOVE LOVE IT kinda game.

You could buy monster Hunter 3 ultimate for cheap to try it out if you want to save $20 in case you hate it.

But yeah I have a $1,500 gaming PC and I am more hyped for MH4U than any PC, Wii U or 3DS game this year :-)

Kirby Triple Deluxe, A Link Between Worlds, Ocarina of Time 3D, Fire Emblem Awakening, Kid Icarus, Smash Bros and Resident Evil Revelations. Those would be good diverse start. I also recommend Kirby in 3D mode, its amazing. I love 3D mode.

The absolute essentials, imo, are Fire Emblem and A Link Between Worlds. Those are the 2 games that are completely unique to the 3DS and also brilliant. After that, it's just the usual suspects.
