So I'm considering getting a 3DS now that it seems like it has a great library of games. However, I was born with an eye condition that prevents me from seeing 3D movies, or the 3D feature of the 3DS. Is this feature necessary to get full enjoyment out of the system? Should this be a deal breaker for me? I've heard Nintendo has put less emphasis on the 3D... thanks in advanced.

3D is completely optional and only makes the game look better. I love my 3DS and the 3D is off the majority of the time. :)

the 3d option its used most to tell your friend "hey 3d without glasses" but besides that i also play most of the time with it turned off and only turn it on to amaze myself like 3 or 5 minutes

the 3ds is totally worth it, its a big jump from the ds graphics to the 3ds and it has the ds library+ 3ds library

I've played some great games on the 3DS and I can barely see any difference when I turn on 3D, and neither can anyone else I've had try. 3D is just a pointless gimmick having it off shouldn't have much or any effect on your enjoyment of a title. Two of the best games I've played on the 3DS are Ghost Recon and the remake of Devil Survivor and those don't really make use of the 3D at all.

Go for it.

The only time I ever use 3D is when I get a new game just to see what the effect looks like. Once that novelty wears off, 3D is pretty much off the rest of the time.

I don't use the 3D on it as I find it rather bad. It has a fair amount of cross talk.

Anyway you should get the system!

Your problem is probably that Devil Survivor doesn't have the 3D feature at all.

As a 2d system, the 3DS falls far short of the Vita, in terms of graphics. But the graphics are perfectly adequate for Mario games, and if that's what you like then it doesn't really matter.

I still find the library isn't quite where I want it to be, but it gets better.

I never play with the 3D on, i find it a bit distracting and having to hold the 3ds in the same place the whole time bugs me, in my opinion the 3D isn't really necessary.

I am constantly fiddling with the 3D :P. Most of the time I have it off. I don't like it in Tales of the Abyss and while I like it in SM3DL and Ocarina of Time, it has its pros and cons and is usualy off. I would like it more if the viewing angle was not so picky.

I mostly play with 3d on, but I don't think you'd lose too much by playing in 2d.

yeah the 3ds is a good handheld. if you dont see the 3d you can think of it as just an upgrade to your ds. It has all the latest games. Definitely worth a buy.

I would say I play more with 3D on but if Im tired or in a car I turn it off. I enjoy New Super Mario Bros 2 much better with 3D off, all it does is blur the backgrounds. Mario 3D Land on the other hand I enjoy more with 3D on, some of the levels are awesome with the depth. 3D off or on Id highly suggest a 3DSXL!

I personally have the 3D on depending on the game, most of the time I have the 3D on low because I usually have it up high just to admire the visuals.

I would say that the 3DS is worth it without the 3D feature, due to the games themselves. No 3D doesn't stop the games from being good

I know that one doesn't and Ghost Recon barely does. I've tried and had others try other games and we barely saw a difference Street Fighter, Resident Evil, Code Princess to give a few examples.

Well I decided to pick one up, thanks to everyone for the advice. I'm really enjoying it so far. Along with the bundled Super Mario 3D land, I picked up Ghost Recon and Pushmo. I'm gonna get Mario Kart 7, Resident Evil: Revalations, and Zelda: OoT 3D next.

Yes you should and to be honest turning 3D on, noticeably lowers the resolution. I prefer the games with 3D off, but do turn it on to see how it looks on individual titles.

3D isn't a dealbreaker though, the great games out/coming out for it are.

I don't think turning 3d lowers resolution, I know capcoms game use anti aliaising of some form in 2d mode thansk to all sharing the same engine but most games maintain the same effective resolution. Could be wrong though and it's pretty tricky to find any sites that really break down the potential for seperate resolutions making research hard.

I'm not 3D blind but my depth perception is incredibly bad, I got the bare mininum marks to get my flight physical. It's worth it, especially if you want to play some DS games (you get much better battery life playing DS also). Tales of the Abyss, OoT, MK7, Kingdom Hearts, SMT: Devil Survivor Overclocked, FF Theatrhythm are excellent games (didn't enjoy 3D Land) and I'm waiting for Fire Emblem and Luigi's Mansion
