I just rewatched it again, and i think i realized what the problem was. The things they tried to do with the film failed mainly because the technology at the time wasnt capable of producing quality effects which the tried to do. In result the film was cheesy, and extremly bad. I believe if they try it again, and this time have a proper story with the proper tech...maybe, JUST MAYBE it might work out. What do you think?

HELL NO! That was one of the worst movies I have ever seen. There is no need to force a new generation to endure something like that.

No. Mario has never been about story, and a movie can't work without a story in the same way a game can.

As an older Nintendo fan who has never seen the movie, the more I hear people trash it the more I want to see it. This movie sounds awful. Morbid curiosity is beginning to get the best of me.

I'd rather eat LOTSA SPAGHETTI than play the Mario CDi game.

And if they DID make another Mario movie, they should atleast make it accurate. Didn't the Mario Bros movie make Mario Luigi's father?

Personally, I liked the Super Mario Bros Movie exactly the way it was. The graphics could have been improved a bit, but the underlying story was great. The concept of a literal mushroom kingdom along with the circumstances that let to the rise of Koopa was fitting. I also liked how Luigi was the one to save the princess who happened to be a reptile herself. The last 21 seconds of the movie was hilarious: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mXbIYfAIgos That all being said, I watched the movie when I was a little kid. I may still like it, but the childhood perspective makes me biased. If it came out today I'd probably be a bit more critical of it. Still, I'm sure it's a movie I'd pay to see.

i love this movie and what i love even more is how people are hating on it because they expect it to be EXACTLY based off the game. lolwhoop dee doo who cares if its not perfect! its justa movie just like any other movie. I like watching the movie for entertainment purposes, not to compare it to the actual game.

i could almostbet that if Super Mario Bros (the game) never existed...but yet the movie still got made with the same exact storyline and same name and everything, i'm pretty sure a lot of people would actually like it since they didn't have a game to compare it to.

You'll know that the movie was obviously bad. There is a 0.0001% chance that you would like that movie. The only way I would watch it is to laugh at it because it was so bad.

The ONLY way a Mario Movie would be good is if it were Animated. Live actors immediately kill it.

No. I absolutely loved the movie, but it's been too long. Bob Hoskins and John Leguizamo are too old for their roles now, and Dennis Hopper is dead. It's just too late. It would have been awesome if they made one in the 90's.

At most, I could tolerate an animated flick released straight to DVD. The original movie should have been animated and based on the actual games. At least it would've been enjoyed by kids that way.

I'd want another one but I'd rather have it in CGI then live-action. Besides, it would be impossible to make a worse Mario movie after the live-action film.

It started as a game, keep it as a game. You cant make a movie of Mario bros. And I think everyone learned that.

NO! That "movie" (and I use that term loosely) was just wrong, and a new one should never be made, ever. The only type of Mario movie I would be OK with is a CG one.

Citation needed. Almost everyone I know thinks the movie is awesome. Or at the very least, so bad that it's good. The movie has a cult following for a reason. Outsiders, i.e. the "majority" you speak of, really don't matter. A lot of people thought The Rocky Horror Picture Show was awful, but it's still the longest-running theatrical movie. There's obviously enough people who still enjoy SMB, or else the DVD wouldn't still be selling.

well citation needed: almost everyone in this thread hated it. so it's your word against everyone else's. in the universe of this thread, which is the only universe that counts UNLESS you can provide proof of something external being true (say, your friends all loving it), it's you like it VS the majority doesn't like it.
