1. Nintendo DS - opened up Nintendo to so many different people, got solid 3rd party support, innovative touch controls. 7 years longevity.

2. Gameboy Advanced - apart from having a strong library of its own, it also gave us ports of great classics

3. Nintendo 3DS** - its slowly but surely building a nice library. time may move it up the ranks.

4. Gameboy - doesnt have a huge library but does have a few good classics.

5. Gameboy Color - only 3 years longevity. games could be played on the original gameboy. has less than 5 strong titles

It's interesting to see these lists you people have made. It kind of shows the age of people. I'd say:

1. GBA

2. DS

3. GBC

4. 3DS

5. GB

Mind you this is taking the system, library, and gaming experiences into account.

DS (Probably my favourite overall library of a system after PC. The variety and sheer amount of great games, whether mainstream of a hidden gem, was amazing.)

GBA (Besides my computer this was the first system I had a large library of games for. Spent many nights playing this on the long bus ride home after high school/part-time job during high school.)

3DS (3DS has potential to move up once it's cycle is over, but I always dislike comparing systems to others when their libraries aren't finished.)

GBC/GB (Wish I could put higher as I have fond memories of receiving my GB for my birthday. I simply had more/better experiences as I got older on the other handhelds.)

Best. DS: Greatest handheld ever, got the mainstream interested in a kid's toy

Worst. 3DS: Garbage handheld that was a last ditch attempt to stay relevant

For all the others I would simply say that they're all tied because each one was what each generation needed. The GameBoy/ Gameboy color/ GameBoy Advance were all a natural progression that was needed to keep Nintendo's handheld market alive.

Besides the 3DS, I only had a DS. I like the 3DS more. Plays everything the DS does and more. Plus my 3DS is an XL, big upgrade.

Considering how awfully it plays them no, no it does not

You don't put the worst handheld at the top just because it gives you bad looking games from the best handheld

The original GBA was my least favorite. You just couldn't see what the hell you were doing outside of absolutely ideal lighting.

This is really hard for me but lately I didn't like either DS or 3DS although I own dozens and dozens f games. I usually tend to like small handhelds like GBA micro or PSP GO which the two witnessed so much hate and were victim of jokes. I like 2DS alot, but it really is cheap plastic. So for me it's hard to decide but I can say that my favorite games were Pokemon games on DS. Black and SS were my most favorite games of all time especially black. So it has to be this then DS>GBA micro>3DS>2DS>color>GB. Leaf grean was sick aswell can't pass on this one

1. Nintendo DS.

2. Gameboy Advanced

3. Nintendo 3DS

4. Gameboy - Some great games like Tetris, Zelda, Kirby, The Pokemon, etc So many games total although there are a lot of bad ones.

5. Gameboy Color -Other than the Zeldas it does not have much that was made purely for it.

# Nintendo DS lite, Gameboy Advance SP 101 series, Gameboy light, Gameboy Advance SP 100 series, Nintendo 3DS, Gameboy color,Nintendo DSi, Gameboy Advance, Nintendo DS, Gameboy, Nintendo 3DS XL, Nintendo DS XL, Gameboy micro, Game & Watch, Gameboy pocket, Nintendo table top, Nintendo 2DS and Virtual Boy.

Even if the Virtual boy was not a handheld, It was a portable Virtual reality game system. A very early 3D videogame machine precursor to the 3DS series and With the "Boy" prefix. So I placed it in with the portable Nintendo game machines.

2. Gameboy

3. 3DS

4. DS

5. Gameboy Color

I know its not a handheld but does Virtual Boy count? Because it would be at the bottom of any list.

DS

Game Boy Advance

Game Boy

Game Boy Color

I still don't own a 3DS, but it will surely trade punches with GBA for second place, it just needs a 2D Metroid, but it has Virtual Console so it's a plus. Virtual Boy would come last surely.

I skipped Gameboy Color and went to advance instead. I never got a real chance to enjoy my 3DS though because the L and R button stopped working. Sent it to Nintendo to get it repair under warranty and they claim water somehow got in the system so they are unable to fix it. Since I'm pretty god damn sure water never got inside of it, I'm not interested in paying $80 to get it fixed when I had it less than 6 months before R and L stop functioning properly. That was nearly 2 years ago now. The only thing I use my 3DS for is taking a quick glance online for Skyrim console command information or as a music player...

Side note: The newer Nintendo console quality after the first DS phat has been getting worse and worse. My GC and original Gameboy has been through hell and back and still functions properly. My N64 and SNES still works nicely. My DS phat health at least lasted more than 7 years (Through all types of conditions) before its health finally started deteriorating (Hinges breaking which has affected the color of both screens). But here's my Wii, which has crashed and burn a total of 3 times now (Disc read problems. Always had something to do with the lens) where I had to send it to Nintendo for repairs and my 3DS with the problem it currently has (Not sure how water got inside of it. Maybe humidity?) Is Nintendo throwing console quality out the window like they have thrown competitors spirit out the window too?...

@bunchanumbers: I paid full price for a Virtual Boy. Saved money for a full few months in anticipation of it, plus some of my 16th birthday money. It was the first purchase of anything game related with my own money. I redeemed myself later by also purchasing a SNES game, one which happened to be called Chrono Trigger.
