It will be interesting to see what becomes of it. It is surprising coming from him (his position). :P
Hopefully this will mean a return to the Nintendo of the 1980's era. When the NES, SNES were full of hard and difficult challenging and really fun games. The Nintendo trio of the NES/SNES/original Gameboy was when Nintendo was at it's best. They made core games and Nintendo games were really fun and punishing at times. But not impossible. Youtube is full of videos of people completing these games.
This is when Nintendo was a true gaming power. Making the best core games. Glad to see that Nintendo has noticed that they have gotten off track. So whenever the 9th Generation arrives Nintendo will have returned to it's roots.

You mean when they went completely into children and casual games?

The only hope I have for Nintendo nowadays is the company to once re-emerge that had some cajones and acted like it. I remember the old days of Sega's "Blast Processing" vs. "Mode 7". Nintendo wasn't always this meek business that tuck-tailed and ran to attempt to tap into some obscure, unknown market where they'd be on easy street for a while whenever some other kid showed up on the block.....no, back then, whenever someone came along and laid claim to what they were good at, they stood and fought. I remember tech spec lingo, the FX chip in Starfox, full color ads in EGM and events at E3 that made no attempt to hide their fighting spirit.
This is when they were at their best.
Sadly, this is to say, with the current leadership and their "we're not good at competing" perspective, my hope is pretty near as minimal as it can be until it changes. Nintendo feels to me like a company run by a bunch of senior citizens, and that's basically what it is. It needs young, aggressive blood in charge that has that desire to battle it out and win at all costs. That, like the Nintendo of old, feels that it has something to prove and is not afraid to show it.
Enough of this, "we're just going to do enough to survive and go through the motions" BS. Nintendo has to get passionate again, because that's largely been lost for nigh on a decade on now.
