8 Level campaign, 6 online maps and a rail shooter mode to help nintendo cash in on the wii-zapper and water down the rest of the game (which is clearly true).

I was very excitted at first and decided to skip metroid for this, but now it seems like it will be a short and disapointing game. So what if it has online? Just 6 maps, it's not like you havent played a ww2 shooter online before anyways, 1942 for pc looks better.

I'd rather go with metroid and have a solid single player experience, than 2 very weak single player and online modes.

What's your take on all of this?

How does Wii Zapper use water down the gameplay? Explain please.

#4 Posted by lfckickass (73 posts) -
I have really high anticipations for this. But metroid comes first.
#5 Posted by Supersonicpower (1 posts) -

It does not seem like that to me TC.

Watered Down just to sell the Zapper? you do know that you don't have to use the zapper right? it's an Option.

Plus this game look's Fantasic. i really can't wait.

I think the Wii is not going to have on-line capabiliteis at all close to the other consoles all this generation. I don't care, my interest in on-line is minimal, but if on-line multiplayer is really important to you you probably bought the wrong console. I expect MOH to be a poorly made quick grab for cash game from EA, who I think are just looking to pick up the easy money by having the first on-line FPS for Wii.

Yes, I find that you generally only like 1 or 2 maps no matter how many they put in the game so as long as there are one or 2 good ones its enough for me.

6 maps with 32 player online sounds good, i mean it's the only online shooter for Wii unless timesplitters 4 comes to the Wii

Metroid always came before Medal of Honor. How about Batallion Wars 2 though?

The rails-shooter mode is what it is--a mode--an option! So maybe...just maybe the on-rails mode will be watered down, but so what--you don't have to play it. The single player campaign can be played without the zapper! You can still play with the nunchuk/Wiimote alone.

You also have a plethora of options to customize the bounding box (or sensitivity settings) to have controls just as good as MP3. Of course changing the bounding box or sensitivity isn't anything new, but MoH gives you MORE ways to customize the bouding box than any other first-person Wii game. With so many different ways to customize the sensitivity--players can't go wrong in picking the ideal control.

Although the online mode is archaic, it's certainly there! 32 players, and if this baby doesn't lag much then you're in for some nice online battles. I to do something called 'PLAY' when I'm in an online match--not 'TALK'. If I'm busting caps into people using the controls that I'm comfortable with, and receiving a challenge in return--then I'm having a good time.

People tend to forget about the core of certain features and think all is lost if a few things are not available. Only 6 maps--boo hoo. No chat--boo hoo. No map creator-boo hoo. If all those online features were packed into a game like Far Cry for the Wii....would that make it a solid game--heck no!

I prefer more maps since I like variety. That was one of the things I didn't like about BF2142 compared to BF2, the lack of maps.

The keyword here is PC, where the standards for graphics and on-line is MUCH higher than the Wii. Really, just put it in perspective. How many on-line games are out there on PC? Obviously, much, much more than any other system, andespecially the Wii. If a 32-multiplayer game came out for the PC, would it be that big ofa deal? Obviously not becauseit would be just amongthe hundreds of other multiplayer PC games that offer the same thing. Now what if the same game came out on a console that at the game's release, there were only 18 games offering multiplayer, none of them offering more than 4-player support? Yes, that's what differentiates an on-line game for the PC and an on-line game for the Wii.

#20 Posted by sonic_rusher (2185 posts) -

ya the game is short. Bt Halo 3 is pretty sort too.

I just dont get why just one FPS game cant give the whole package.

MP3 is awsoome but has no multiplayer. MoH 2 looks like it has a great online play but it lacks a long campaign, and there is no splitscreen or LAN.

I mean the best way to sell a game is to show its complete, so what are they doing???

This game looks awesome. Im satisfied that EA was the one to step up and give us an online FPS. Now thats awesome, 6 maps, no biggy. Well....

Personally, medal of honor multiplayer games always felt weird. I dont know, maybe because I played Metroid and Halo which caused me to feel this way. How? I dont know.

One thing, I will always rant about is the lack of thinking when it comes to lets all play together. Metroid 3, no online. That was a bad idea. There was really no reason to complain if they added it in, heck MP2 has great campaign and multiplayer. The maps kinda stunk but they were doing something new. Metroid could have been a great opportunity. But they skrew it over and say "no online, great campaign"

Im sick of that, even the fans who agree. Good games allow you to enjoy them for over 20 hours not quit after you beat it. Metroid prime 3 had awesome campaign, no doubt. But once you beat it, its over..

Yeah yell at me for saying multiplayer and metroid in one sentence. But for crying out loud, this could have been the best nintendo online FPS out there.

#23 Posted by clarkeyboy21 (702 posts) -
You do have some good points but i'd rather go with the online. It will give me something to do while waiting to save for MP3 and SSBB.
#25 Posted by han_186 (948 posts) -
I own a Wii and MP3 and Strikers, but as far as FPS online goes, it sounds like Halo 3 is the king as of right now. Level editor? Camera saves of fights? It just sounds like Wii might not ever be able to compete unless a developer really does something revolutionary and dynamic as opposed to casual and meh, especially now with Team Fortress 2 coming out soon.madribub
here.... i... go.. again... metroid is fpa not shooter, if it was fps, the single player would be crap like halo

So if a game was another genre, its single player mode would be crap? That doesn't make any sense, at all. For one thing, all genres can aspire to be just as good as the next, (which would explain why Wario Ware: Smooth Moves received a higher score on GameSpot than The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess). Second of all, Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, is a first-person shooter, deal with it. The Metroid Prime series has always stayed in a definite fine line so it could stay true to the original games which were all about exploration, but Metroid Prime 3: Corruption with its focus on combat and reduced backtracking has passed this line and should really be considered a shooter.

#28 Posted by IRaiza (11 posts) -
Han - Explain to me why it would? They make the campaign then make multiplayer. There is no evidence telling that it would be bad. Besides, Halo campaign is good. Im sorry it is a bit hard for you to understand. More on that, Halo has got a better story, not always bosses. Your just comparing time consuming with fast paced shooting.

No, it's based on an opinion of the game. Genres throughout all works are categorized on their focuses on certain aspects of whatever they are categorised in. I can say that particular video game has a deep focus in certain aspects which would, by definition, place it in a certain genre. Again, it's Nintendo's opinion that Retro developed a game that has more focus in exploration than combat, while the majority of people who have played their game think differently. It all boils down to people's opinions.

So if enough people say Metroid is an RPG than it automatically becomes fact? I don't think so. It's placed in a category and it doesn't matter if other people think of it a little differently, it's still in that category.

I never said it was a fact. I never said the word fact. In actuality, that was my point entirely, to explain how a game's genre is completely based on opinion and is never a fact that can be proven or disproven. If the majority of the people who play Metroid Prime 3 think it's a first-person shooter, that's just their opinion. If Nintendo who publishes the game, (ovbiously a more credible source), say it's a first-person adventure then that's just its opinion of the game.

That's the very question I ask myself every day. I try to convince myself that this game could suck along with the multiplayer, so if it actually does, I'm won't be disappointed. But I just can't do it. Every time I think of its possible down falls, (short single player, possibly bad controls, no local multiplayer, no communication during on-ling play, may be to generic as just another World War II shooter), I remember that it's a World War II fist-person shooter, (I'm a real sucker for those, even bought Vanguard), and it has 32-multiplayer, no friend codes and join-able servers. I really try to convince myself that this could be just like any game that strives high, but I can't. The individual hype is too much for me.

Well MP2 multiplayer sucked hard, thats part of the reason why they did not add it to MP3. Also abunch of diehard Metroid fans were complete idiots and raised holy hell about not hhaving multiplayer. i mean I understand whyt hey didnt but, if there was one game that everyone saw as a rival to Halo it was Metroid and when they excluded the multiplayer Metroid jumped out fot he race. Kinda of dissappointing.

I just want a kick ass FPS that is complete.

Though they are similar in certain ways, they are in completely different genres and are targeted at different audiences. The games of the two series don't even play the same.

The original Metroid Prime didn't even have multiplayer, so that's another reason for there to be no rivalry between the two series.

Popular demand says otherwise. I never personally compared it. I just mentioned that it was dissapointing for alot of people. I always thought was cool that they were like rivals even if it was not from a genre oriented rivalry but their characters are so much alike. This is how it is dont argue with me about it argue with the hordes of people that started it.

I agree it's enough for me. It probably won't be for Halo players but i don't mind. THey have to start somewhere right? And at least the wii will carry nintendo into the next gen where i'm pretty sure ninty will have all thier **** together for the most part.

Yeah yell at me for saying multiplayer and metroid in one sentence. But for crying out loud, this could have been the best nintendo online FPS out there.

It wasn't even in the race to begin with. Metroid Prime, nor Metroid Prime 2 were First-person shooters. Anyone who compares the two series doesn't know a thing about video game genres.

Say what you like but MS and Nintendo fans alike considered them in a race. once again you dont listen. MANY people saw it that way. When they excluded multiplayer that rivalry ended.

I never said many people didn't see it that way. I'm saying that comparing the two games is like comparing Final Fantasy and The Legend of Zelda. Though they are similar in certain ways, they are in completely different genres and are targeted at different audiences. The games of the two series don't even play the same.

The original Metroid Prime didn't even have multiplayer, so that's another reason for there to be no rivalry in the first place.

Popular demand just wanted on-line multiplayer with a flagship series for the Nintendo Wii. It had nothing to do with comparing the two series.

OMG I was not the one who made up the rivalry between Metroid and Halo, it was the masses. Even if they dont match as with their game type they make great rivals as just characters. Also one of the main reasons retro excluded online or let alone any multiplayer was that die hard fools wanted to preserve the series and that ruined it for the rest of us.

I never said it was you who made up the rivalry. Retro excluded on-line multiplayer because of how awful Metroid Prime 2's was and that the series was meant to be a single-player experience, a claim backed up by Reggie himself. If they had put on-line multiplayer, it would have either detracted from the single-player experience or they would have had to delay the game even further.

Han - Explain to me why it would? They make the campaign then make multiplayer. There is no evidence telling that it would be bad. Besides, Halo campaign is good. Im sorry it is a bit hard for you to understand. More on that, Halo has got a better story, not always bosses. Your just comparing time consuming with fast paced shooting.IRaiza
ha! spoken like a true fanboy, halo campaign is short and generic, the meat is the multiplayer. And if ur not an idiot u would know that developers only have a limited amount of things to make a game

Thats not fanboyish. Halo 2 was retarded because it had a terrible campaign. Halo 3 has a much better campaign but it still had shortcomings and definitely did not surpass the campaign of Halo 1.

Im not using heresay as statistics, in fact thats heresay right there. Obviously MP2 had a bad multiplayer but that doesnt mean MP3 would have had a bad multiplayer. I know that was one fo Retro's reasonf or excluding a multiplayer and it was retarded on their part. The main reason though was diehard fanboys who wanted Metroid to stay the same and that is also retarded.

They could have easily made an awsome multiplayer. They also could have been the first to make a 32 player online game for Wii. I would rather have a delayed game than one that excludes awsome features like multiplayer. I know these are their reasons and from this point in time we can obviously see it was a mistake.

Yes, you are using hearsay. You aren't backing up any of your claims of the general consensus and are stating unconfirmed facts. Retro did not make a mistake. They considered the option of adding multiplayer and on-line, but they scrapped it and wanted to completely focus on the single-player. Metroid is a single-player game. There are plenty of first-person shooters out there that have single-player and multiplayer. Examples of such games include Medal of Honor and Halo, while Metroid Prime and Bioshock don't have multiplayer are were still great successes, all because they were completely focused on a single-player experience. If you want to buy a first-person shooter with on-line multiplayer for the Wii then buy Meadal of Honor Heroes 2 when it comes out, (which by the way doesn't really have a very fleshed out single-player and isn't trying to have the same single-player experience as Metroid Prime 3 has, meaning that the focus of the game on multiplayer has effected the quality and value of the single-player mode).

"...obviously see it was a mistake."

That's just your opinion and doesn't really matter because obviously the game was not directed towards a person with your interests. If you don't like the direction of the game then don't buy it, simple as that.

"They also could have been the first to make a 32 player online game for Wii."

Actually, since the game was never planned to have multiplayer in the beginning, it probably would have been pushed back into next year in which Medal of Honor Heroes 2 would have been released before then. The Metroid series has always been about a single-player experience focused on exploration. Metroid Prime 2 and Metroid Prime: Hunters broke that formula and their single-player suffered from it. Retro didn't want Metroid Prime 3 to suffer the same fate so they focused on what the Metroid series has always been about.
