Found this on IGN and decided to ask people here.

Which controls will you use for movement? I'll use the Circle Pad, because while I prefer the D-Pad in side-scrollers, the D-Pad on the 3DS is so clunky and poorly placed it strains my hand.

It's a 2D platformer. The d-pad is the only reasonable choice.

Or maybe even the mic. You know, like: "Jump Mario jump! That brown thing I-don't-know-what is coming! Jump! His head is on fire! He killed your parents! This isn't a cutscene! Jump!" :P I'd use the D-Pad if it wasn't placed too low, like I said. Basically I just had to say what I said above

Using the circle pad for a 2d platformer? That doesn't sound right.

Circle pad because it's more comfortably placed. I've also got used to using it with Super Mario Bros, Super Mario World 1 & 2, Kirby's Dreamland, Kirby's Adventure and Mega Man.

I alternate the controls all the time, but mostly for the d-pad.

Hmm... the IGN community thought totally differently. Here are the results for both:

I guess this means war :D

I find my thumb will gravitate naturally from circle to d-pad depending what works for the games. Either one feels pretty good. I played the original NSMB on my 3DS and I think used the circle pad.

If the circle pad feels good for it, then that, since it's more comfortably placed. Would be nice if the d-pad was slightly higher up than it is.

Based on my past experience with sidescrollers on 3DS, circle pad.

I would never imagine I'd say that before I got a 3DS. It's a combination of circle pad being surprisingly good for platformers and the d-pad is probably Nintendo's worst so far plus it's uncomfortable to use because of its location.

This. For example, I would use the d-pad on the PS3 controller and thumbstick on the 360 controller. If the d-pad is placed awkwardly I won't use it.

I does not like touchscreen or face button to play any of marios games. I like to play L and R controles for plating Mario bros. 2 and it provide most comfortable and better gaming experience than any other gamign console.

Possibly Dpad but i got so used to the Circle pad that i use it on everything, Especially Pokemon White.

I mean seriously, have you guys tried Super Mario 64 DS with the circle pad? Especially if the last time you played it was on the DSi's crappy Dpad and no the dslites? IT FEELS GOOD DAMNIT

Location, sure, but thats probably because they expect you to use the circle pad more often, but i have to disagree, DSi's Dpad was worse, it was so seperate and flat that playing 3D world games like Super Mario 64 DS was a chore, atleast the 3DS got closer to the DSlites incarnation of the dpad
