If they made a Whole new GTA Wii exclusive that would be great news, but just porting San Andreas to the Wii isn't all that great is you ask me.
ps: Both of your link are 404.
1. Porting it to the Wii probably won't help sales for the game. It might actually take more money than it would make. I have a PS2 and a Wii so IF i really wanted the game, I'd probably get it for the PS2. Why?
2. I don't think the motion capabilities of the Wii-mote would improve gameplay.
3. I'd rather play new franchises or new games based on franchises on the Wii.

Let me guest, you have NMH, why cant GTA have NMH type controls or Scarface controls, those worked fine in open world games..

GTA can have motion sensing controls, but my point places emphasis on improving gameplay.
While I doubt it would ever happen - the Wii is just too family friendly for a GTA game (NMH is one thing, but GTA is another...) - I probably wouldn't get it even if it came with new waggle controls. I liked GTAIII and Vice City, but I got bored with the series after that. San Andreas was alright and mildly addicting at first, but I haven't touched it since it first came out.
Besides, why settle on a four year old port when you could hope for a brand new entry? I'd rather have a Wii version of GTA IV than San Andreas.

I was referring not only to the mature themes, but all the controversy behind the GTA series. True, the Manhunt games carry their fair share, but whenever someone gets shot in a school or Jack Thompson gets bored, GTA usually comes into conversation more than any other series (not counting Mortal Kombat since it's not the mid 90's anymore)
Obviously, I could be wrong and a GTA game could come to the Wii, which would be great if not for me, than for Nintendo's sales. Just don't see it happening. I mean, the Wii constantly tries to extend this family friendly atmosphere around it, then releases a game where you kill cops and curb stomp hookers? Fun, of course, but I don't see it as Wii-friendly.

So basically your tryin to fit in with the "Wii TOO Kidish" Crowd. They keep making GTA games so why not one for wii? Its not a kidish system, there SHOULDNT be a "wii friendly" console. Well, I personally don't think that any system is "kiddie", unless it's specifically billed for children under the age of 12 (like those little electronic games and computers that have crap like cartoon frogs on it or whatever). I DO realize, however, that the Wii has this theme about the system that makes it acceptable for kids to play, more than the other two consoles. It even reaches into the first-party titles. Mario is family-friendly; Master Chief is not!
It's always been that way with Nintendo. Yes, they do have Mature games (some coming to mind: Eternal Darkness, Manhunt 2, the Resident Evil games), but every Nintendo system is primarily known for being acceptable to everyone in the household. While that's cool, and it's nice that they've always been so successful in that group of gaming, they take a bunch of flak for it, the "Kiddie console" always being the major gripe. I always try to look past that and see a game's gameplay before I say anything is "for babies". I even got weird looks from friends when I'd play Wind Waker in front of them, but whatever...
I'd like to see Mature games come out for the Wii. Then again, I don't mind the games with a milder theme, since Nintendo can pull them off so flawlessly. Mainly, I just want good games, preferably with original content. Which is why I wouldn't want to play a Wii port of San Andreas, a four year old game I've already played. Just the personal opinon, of course. I do realize that any GTA release on the Wii would be a major thing for a lot of people, so if it came out, great!

Its true its not a kiddish system none of them is, but there is a certain crowd of games for a certain console as there is a type of person for a type of console its sad , but its a fact. I really don't think a GTA4 would sell that well on Wii since it would probably be just a cheaper version of it as the Wii is no powerhouse. Its also true that the Wii is dominating the market for the number of unit sold, but most of its user being casual not really interested in those types of game, GTA4 Wii version would just appeal a slim % of the current Wii owner and is unlikely to sell well under those circumstance.
You have a point, mojothebaboon. Three of the top five best selling Wii games cater to the casual audience. GTA IV does look like it will be a great game, though; I'm not a big GTA fan (gets repetitive and boring after awhile, to me), but the preview videos for the new one looks pretty cool!
I think that if a major game title came out like that, even to a system that has the most casual gamers, I think sales would be huge. You'd be attracting the core gamers, and the casuals may follow because of the all the press and word of mouth surrounding the game. They may play it because they have their "casual" console, love it, and try to play more "hardcore" games because of it. More titles are released, the industry thrives, and everyone's happy.
Of course, this subject would be moot if there was only ONE CONSOLE, an idea which I'm an advocate of. Why buy three when you only need one? Cheaper for me, and easier on the devs.

[off topic} I indeed wish for a single console too...
If you were a Dev would you spend money to make a completely different game to bring it to another system knowing that the original version of that game is already going to make millions of dollars ? Personnally I wouldn't I would rather stay on the safe side. That's an actual problem for the Wii.
Devs are not ready to takes those kind of risk knowing that a lot of hardcore already have their PS3 or xbox360 why would they even bother to "bid" their money ?

Money!
Just kidding; that's the answer to everything. No, I think major titles that are announced to other systems this generation take a deep and considerable amount of time and thought into multiplatforming to the Wii. It's not like last gen, where multiplatforming was somewhat easier because most of the tech behind the consoles were more similar than they are now.
For example, when you'd pick up an Xbox game, visually it was going to look similar or almost the same as the PS2 and Gamecube versions. The only differences would be minor graphical sheen and maybe a better framerate than the PS2 port. Now, when multiplatforming, the Wii version will almost NEVER be the same as the 360/PS3 versions. It goes beyond graphics, now. The game's theme and very play mechanics can be totally different between systems. Take the new Ghostbusters game. The PS3/360 versions will be based towards a more story driven single player experience, while the Wii version will put a greater emphasis on multiplayer. Why? Because the Wii is more of a local, social system than the 360 or the PS3. Yes, the 360 has an excellent online service, but playing against someone across the country online is very different than playing with a buddy on the couch.
So I think that with certain titles, call them "hardcore" if you want, devs will have to conscienously be aware that if they choose the multiplatform, the game will almost have to be altered nowadays, and those changes will be more than graphical. The Wii is a popular console, so that means it's in a lot of homes. The money is there; it's up to the devs to figure out a way to grab it!
Still, I think that having one console would eliminate all that. Developers wouldn't have to create multiple game configurations for different systems. One console means there's only one way to program. It wouldn't be like PC programming anymore. Plus, you'd have a system that plays Halo, GTA, and Super Mario. Who doesn't want that?
I am completely aware of the console marketing potential, but as you stated porting something to the Wii is clearly not as easy to port as Xbox/GC. The developers will usually not port, but just create another game for the Wii being so different. Instead they will just rely on PS3 and Xbox 360. A lot of the Wii game out there are Wii exclusive, on the other hand i can't think of that much having being ported. On another note I really hope you are right and that they will figure out the way to grab it.
Also about Ghostbusters, yes they did port it, but it will clearly not be the same experience which is partially why we don't see that much game coming to the Wii if the devs intended the game to be played that way, chances are if its played another way it won't be near as enjoyable and isn't really the same game anymore.
This is why i don't think a port of GTA would fit an original game intended to it might be really great. i would support that idea and be really glad of it.
While there is a lot of Home console and potential money, have you looked at the ratio games being sold per console, it might be one thing that refrain the devs from creating a different games for the Wii. At least now EA seems to be trying something with Star Wars Force Unleashed. I hope they can do something good because it would be something that would create a basic line for porting.
I still think it's like what I was trying to get at in my last post: successfully making a game on the Wii depends on knowing the console and the consumer. Some game ideas will work better on the Wii, with all it's pros and cons, and some won't. If you make a game and try to make one of the best selling points about it the graphics, the wisest choice wouldn't be to put it on the Wii. The same is you were making an FPS and emphasized multiplayer. If the direction you were going in was a game that applied innventive controls in a pick up and play party atmosphere, then yeah, the Wii is a great choice!
Actually, the FPS could work extremely well with the controls, but Wii's online multiplayer is a little lacking so far. Play MOHH2 for an example: excellent controls, average online, but still overall a great game.
On the Ghostbusters subject, yes, the Wii version will most likely be different than the 360/PS3 versions. The question is, is that a bad thing? You're going to be offered a similar game with different gameplay experiences. All the average gamer has to do is be aware that this copy of the game is going to be different with that copy. To the casual gamer, that may be confusing at first because I'd imagine they would see the box, think it's all the same, and pick up the cheaper version. Most casual gamers don't do much research about games before purchasing. Maybe visit a website and look at a couple of screenshots; maybe scan a review for a score. Hopefully there will be some info identifying what you're going to get on the back of the box.
And yeah, I would like a wholey original GTA, if the series would ever come to the Wii. If done neatly, ports are fine, but I'd prefere something totally new and not just the same old, same old. Unfortunately, that's the way a lot of Wii games go; take the same game from another console and map the controls to movements. Another problem both Nintendo and third parties will have to address.
At any rate, this has been an awesome little discussion. I wish a game dev or someone from the Big N would check it out. Maybe the developers of the Ghostbuster games. It'd probably make them feel good that people are talking about their game...in a GTA thread.
