Gamespot's Wii U GOTY

is Mario Kart 8.

The nominees were:

• Mario Kart 8
• Super Smash Bros. for Wii U
• Bayonetta 2
• Shovel Knight
• Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze

What do you guys think? Do you agree?

It's quite an interesting result given that Bayonetta 2 (10) and Smash Bros. (9) scored higher than MK8 (8).

Personally, I'd rank it Smash Bros. > B2 > Mk8 > DK:TF > SK. So Smash would get my GOTY for Wii U, and I think B2 would be acceptable too, in my opinion.

My personal opinion is Hyrule Warriors but WiiU had a fantastic year for video games, last year was very good too.

Its a tough call between Bayonetta and Smash for me.

Better than smash that's for imo. Bayonetta or tropical freeze would've been good picks as well.

I think i'm in the minority here, but I'd give Shovel Knight game of the year (overall) so i'd vote for that on the Wii U too. All 5 games are GREAT. I think you could argue any of these games, but for me, something was special about shovel knight. It's far and few between with "special" games, and i think brought fun back into a game when the era was so focused on graphics, innovation, and multi-player.

But i think Smash Bros will get the nod.

Agreed. Hyrule Warriors was downright fun as hell. But in either case it was a great year for games, and the fact it had so many to choose from shows how great the games were.

It's tough though since Shovel Knight was my favorite game this year, I'd rather give the award to a WiiU exclusive for WiiU. Overall I'd give it to Shovel Knight.
