I would be on the lookout for a sale for an XL.Â
This year is the year to get one. There is a lot to play right now all the way through the holiday season. You'll miss out if you keep waiting for another iteration which might not even come.Â
I don't know if they'll ever be 3DS revision. But then again I did not see the 3DS XL coming either. So your options are waiting on something that's unknown of or get 3DS XL at a good deal.
I actually think this or something similar WILL happen eventually. Nintendo usually releases several versions of its hardware to spur sales. The 3DS is just a little over 2 years old I beleive.  The system will be around for 6-7 years minimum. There is no way that nintendo won't release at least on more revison in the coming years. That said I wouldn't hold my breath, it will probably be awhile. go ahead and pick up an XL so you can enjoy the new upcoming games.ÂThe XL is still pretty new. I'd like to see them make a normal-sized 3DS with the design of the XL, but that will most likely not happen.
If there was going to be a new 3DS, it would have probably been announced today during the Nintendo Direct.

I have high hopes for Atlus, especially when it comes to SMT since they've yet to release a dissapointing one.
Definitely a pre-order for me even at 50 bucks, and I've never pre-ordered anything.
But anyway, yes now would be a great time. The 3DS has already had a pretty good line-up and 2013 only made it better with games
like LM2: Dark Moon, Fire Emblem Awakening, Monster Hunter 3, Etrian Odyssey IV, and Soul Hackers(another good SMT game remade from a classic).
The announcements Nintendo recently made concerning 3DS releases gives you even more reason to buy one now.
Personally I'm looking forward to Animal Crossing the most. But definitely a lot of first party titles coming our way.
Be on the lookout for sales on 3DS XL's. I bought mines for 160 no tax free shipping from goHastings. Places like Target had the same price tag around the same time.
