I know it doesn't scan/read them like the new 3DS but is there any way to use amiibo with the old 3DS XL? I don't have any so I don't know exactly how they work or if there's a code or some other way to use them in games with the old 3DS. Thanks!
@amyh7292:
So far there is no way that i know of. Nintendo has announced an Amiibo Reader that will give the older 3DS's support but im not sure when theyll release it in America.
@iandizion713 Okay, I had heard something kind of similar but that was a very vague statement I saw on the Amiibo site. Yeah, I'm not terribly upset by that, I just liked the Pokemon ones anyway as collectables and thought I'd try them out in Smash bros for something different
@Master_Of_Fools I was thinking the same. The "New" 3DS only has a small handful of "new' features that would make someone want to upgrade who already has the old one. Facetracking 3D, C-stick, and amiibo reader.. I mean that's basically it right? If they do release the adaptor for old 3DS that's even less incentive for amiibo fans to get the new 3DS. Again, I don't have amiibo and am not exactly butt hurt over the lack of adaptor but like you I'm skeptical this will make it to the US market. There isn't even a release date in Japan yet. So by the time there is in late summer/early fall at the EARLIEST the new 3DS is already about 9 months old, in which case from Nintendo's POV why push a device for the old model when even the new one is going on a year old? I'll believe it when I see it for the old 3DS as well...
