Samsung has announced a number of new devices at IFA:

Galaxy Note 4

Specifications:

  • Android 4.4 with TouchWiz UX
  • 5.7 inch 2560x1440p Super AMOLED display
  • Snapdragon 805 or Exynos 5433*
  • 3 GB LPDDR3 RAM
  • Cat. 6 LTE
  • 32 GB NAND + microSD
  • 16 MP rear camera with OIS (Sony IMX240)
  • 3.7 MP front camera

Most people would ask the question, "Why?", Samsung asks, "Why not?"... Thus, the Galaxy Note Edge is born.

Gear VR is a VR headset dock for the Galaxy Note 4. It's worth noting that the Oculus Rift DK2 actually uses the SAMOLED display from a Galaxy Note 3 (overclocked).

Samsung has made a deal with Montblanc for an S-pen and Note 4 cases. More to come.

Samsung dose indeed operate on the principle "Why not?" and floods the market with just about anything they can come up with. It makes sense that their style would match well with Google's style (which we've clearly seen).

Does the 1440p screen have an affect on battery life or application performance? It was my impression that both were affected by such a high resolution.

@musicalmac A higher res display will use more battery and require more performance. These devices use new and efficient SoC's with enough performance to support the display.

October release for the Note 4, and the Note Edge at a later date this year. I'm glad you're enjoying the threads there's a lot more to come.

The Galaxy Note Edge is not a pretty site, what's Samsung thinking?

I think it is the best looking samsung by far. Getting a new phone in the next week or two. Have all the flagship phones been announced yet? Only brand I won't buy is Samsung--build quality is atrocious. Not exaggerating here; everybody I know with an S series phone has had the screen crack, some multiple times--one in particular 4 or 5 times.....that is the truth.

lol , do not underestimate the evolution of smartphone cpu and gpu's.

I mean 10 years ago Doom 3 and Half Life 2 needed Monster Pc to play the game on highest settings.

Now we can enjoy same games on our mobile devices (Half Life 2 on Android Tegra 4/k1 and Doom 3 on for example my galaxy s5 .... see link)

Loading Video...

Skyrim came out in 2011 , so in a couple of years it could be played on our smartphones .....maybe even sooner ;)

@pas696:

Wow, you don't get it, Metro LL has trouble running on 2014 PC's, with big GPU's and CPU's, smartphones and tablets will take time to get there, ~5yrs IMO.

Also, anyone can support dx11, does it mean that the GPU can play dx11 games, NO.
