Well I've used this crappy old Sprint HTC EVO 3D phone for a long time now and my previous phone account got shut down - anyone here know what phone is currently "the phone" to get?

Considering I'll be stuck with the damn thing for a couple of years at least, I'd like to make a relatively informed decision ;)

P.S. No Apple please

Why no Apple? You don't want the phone with the best graphics, best apps and best ecosystem out there?

Seems ridiculous just because you want to be a fanboy. I switched from android to iPhone. I won't say I will never switch back but android would have to do some big changes for me to consider it at this point.

A quick edit to point out why I switched.

-needing multiple apps to make one thing sort of function properly. Completely ridiculous.

-jail breaking is basically a requirement. All new phones have skinned android versions that are so grossly bloated with useless shit.

-jailbreaking. What an absolute pain in the ass this was. First I research and find the firmware I want. Then I modify said firmware to actually operate on my device. Install it, find out something isn't working right. Start all over.

-providers never release updates. What do they care. You have the phone, they're launching the latest and greatest thing in a few months. You're old news now, too bad.

Honestly the list really goes on and on and on. But those were some of the big reasons.

I have years of experience with Apple software - and that experience was really bad. Pretty much all of Apple's stuff is overpriced junk - I'm not sure why their phones would be an exception. Has nothing to do with fanboyism honestly, I've just learned to avoid Apple products since a young age. Every person I see who has one seemed to be extremely limited by them. I'm not technologically retarded, I don't need Apple. Droid isn't the greatest thing in the world, but at least it's not Apple.

Hell - Apple stores themselves are freaking awful. Second you step in you get assaulted by smelly hipsters and "You're a genius" advertsing. That doesn't bother you? Bothers me. It's enough to prevent me from going to them on my own volition. Or maybe I don't want to support Apple's extreme exploitation of Asian workers? I don't need multiple apps to make one function to work on my dated Android HTC 3D Evo. I don't find jailbreaking hard to do, in the least, and I don't really know if I even care to jailbreak my new phone. I'm not going to be doing anything crazy. Just want something to reliably text my girlfriend, stream music to, and a new screen to watch porn on before I go to sleep.

I've had my eye on this phone for a very long time...

Which makes me wonder if it's a little late to be grabbing it? Is there going to be a new Samsung Galaxy soon?

@KHAndAnime: Fair enough. Everyone is certainly entitled to their own opinion:) it is worth mentioning new Microsoft stores are literally carbon copies of Apple stores. Everything down to the way employees are dressed, their name tags. Literally a palette swap of an Apple Store. Haha.

I did update my post with reasons why I switched off android.

@KHAndAnime: I havent heard anything about a new S model besides the Galaxy Alpha which is basically a smaller and yet worse revision of the s5. The only problem with you getting one right now is that chances are the s6 will come out next year. But I am very satisfied with how well the s5 handles my needs so I am set til the s7 model

Hi,

Why not try a OnePlus One phone. I have it for 2 months and I love it!

I second this. There's nothing else in its price range as good, though it's a shame the style swap backs won't be coming out. There's also the new Nexus which could be interesting, and maybe comparable.

Hi, hijacking quickly - if I were choosing betwen Galaxy S5, Xperia Z3 and LG G3, what differentiates them the most? Choosing myself at the moment. :P

EDIT: The Z3 seems pretty amazing between the audio, camera and battery life so leaning towards that at the moment...
