I've started noticing that more and more games require connection to play. This is a problem though, because most of my Android gaming happens away from any WiFi hotspot and I do not have a mobile data plan either. So, could you guys suggest some good games that do not require internet connection to play? If possible, I'd also appreciate if you separated the Free ones and the Paid ones. Thanks!

This is going to be an issue because the way that a lot of the developers make money from the free games is through ads. The ads pay for the game so you can get it for free but in order for that to happen, there needs to be a connection so that you can be served the ads to begin with, which is why most games require it. Games that don't require the connection tend to be the ones that also have in app purchases. A short list would be: Candy Crush Angry Birds Eternal Warrior Pinball Arcade Marc

Actually, there are a number of them that WANT you to be online but doesn't require you to be online. (aka shops)

PvZ2, Giant Boulder of Death, Into the Dead are just some of them.

Check out a youtube channel called AndroidNub. He makes videos of new games and tells you whether or not it requires an internet connection.
