Is there a way to do the above action? Noting that I just got my 360 yesterday, and I'm exploring what I can and can't do with it. Thanks.

You can plug it into one of the USB posrts and listen to it, but you can't actually transfer it to the hard drive.

EDIT: a little late on my post :)

So my best bet would be to burn it to a DVD-R and transfer it that way? (You can do that, right?)

And, so I'm not wasting my efforts, this music can be played during gameplay, correct? There are some games with soundtracks that just don't matter, and I plan on replacing them with far superior music (I recall my freshman year roommate doing this for Madden on his Xbox original).

Im not sure if it'll see music on a dvd-r but you can try it, but yes you can play your own music all the time from the guide.

It won't let you copy any music to the hard drive unless you are copying it from the original CD. I just plug my MP3 player into it and play it from there. I also have it set up where I can stream music from my PC to the 360.

So basically I burn it to regular CD, then I can rip it to my 360 HD? Or am I still missing something here?

You got it. It has to be a normal audio cd.

You burn it as an audio CD, not as a data CD.

So basically burn it in Windows Media Player (I assume you have the Windows operating system) or your favorite media application, then simply insert it into your Xbox and then it's pretty self explanatory.

Will it rip it on there as .mp3s or .wmas or some other format rather than the huge CD quality formats that will take up way more of my HDD space than I want?

And, just being absolutely sure (before I waste 30 decent CD-Rs), I can't just throw a bunch of mp3s onto a DVD-R and then copy them over?

firstly, nice avatar :D secondly, instead of burning it onto the 360 HD through CD's (which is the only way as you now know), I would just hook up your mp3 player/device (I'm sure you have one...) through a USB connection and play the music like that. I burned 2 CD's onto my HD but I realized that it would be easier if I just hooked up my mp3 player with it and played it like that.

I don't know if everyone that reads this is only trying to listen to music as they play their game. I came to this thread looking for an answer to my problem. My problem being I got NHL 10 and you can have custom songs playing when your team comes out, after every whistle blow, etc. and the only way to get them on there is to copy songs to the hard drive.

I have to agree though I'm not looking forward to wasting a whole bunch of cd-r's on this. I tried linking my pc to my xbox, putting all my music in my wmp library, and transfer it that way. Didn't work. I tried putting the songs on a flash drive and hooking it up to my xbox to transfer them. Didn't work.

Please if there is an easy way to do it let us know.

Thanks. :)

I just use CD-RW's...erase, and load up again. I have a ton o music on my HDD, and yes, most games will play your music and turn off the game music....and if they don't, you can always go into the game options and turn the music down all the way. On a side note, you CAN format your flash drive, or a portion of it, to match the xbox drive...in which case you can then use it to transfer profiles, games, pics, etc...depending on the size you allocate. I haven't tried to transfer music via this method though, so I'm not sure if it would work...but I don't see why not..

you can only copy music from an audio CD (not a data cd). You cannot use any USB device for this... kind of sucks.

well my xbox will rip from data discs just fine. so what i did was i bought a cdrw which is a rewriteable cd and you just burn your music to it rip it to your xbox. then erase the disc on your computer. and repeat as much as needed. this way you arent wasting a bunch of cdr's and you can still use the same cd for anything else you might need it for

the only way i have found to get music to my xbox is to burn music onto a disc and make it an audio disc format meaning it cant hold nearly as many songs as you would hope.... all in all its a long and boring process
