Final Fantasy XIII Coming to Xbox 360
I'm glad more people get to enjoy the title.:)
Time to drive into the old photobucket account and see what gifs I have that can express my amazement.
Nope. Not that one.
Not quite.
Not yet, but were getting there.
Almost.
Perfect.
Lemming #1: Sir, we have the plans for the cow's ultimate weapon

Sony's Fanbase
Wow. This came as an incredible surprise. I almost crapped my pants watching it. It was funny how the SE guy walked off and I was like "Damn, no FF13 announcement" then *BAM* he comes back. Unless Sony does something amazing tomorrow I will officially have no reason to purchase a PS3.
Final Fantasy 13 sig coming soon. :P

When Wada came back and tapped him on the shoulder I thought he was lost or something and asking for directions.
Massive blow to Sony. But one thing...
Apparently the game is still a PS3 exclusive in Japan, but it will be on the 360 and PS3 in the US... Now I know Final Fantasy has a massive fan base in Japan, but how big is the FF fanbase in the US? You'd think MS would secure that game on their console in the one region it mattered most, Japan.

I think Microsoft realized that even if it sold well, it wouldn't have a significant impact on 360 sales if it wasn't exclusive. Now if they managed to secure an exclusive FF release, that would definately sell consoles.

The 360 is completely irrelavent in Japan. A multi-platform FFXIII in Japan wouldn't have helped them in any way since everyone would just buy it for the PS3(and probably sell it and the console back when they beat it). It wouldn't have been worth S-E time to even distribute it.
But still,
I didn't expect this at all. I'm curious to see which console gets higher reviews and if there are any console specific parts of the game. I'm also curious to see how many discs it's on for the the 360.
Well at least the rumors of MGS4 going to the 360 can finally die (hopefully).
[QUOTE="Shinobishyguy"]The internet's reaction:

 Wow that was great. Did you make that?
nopefound it on *internet image board that shall not be named*

You sure? I think this would only compound the rumors...
True. Well if MGS4 is announced for the 360 I'm cleaning out my HDD and getting ready more than a thousand porn suicides. :P
Alright, so how could it have happened? Sony didn't pay for exclusivity. Why? Did they think they didn't need it? Do they actually have something that could be considered better? It just doesn't compute.Mordred19
Perhaps Sony thought Square Enix would always remain loyal to them. Perhaps they believed in the whole "Final Fantasy is a Playstation brand" thing. Maybe they just couldn't justify paying an exorbitant fee to keep the game exclusive to their platform.
But then again, representatives of Square Enix have said in the past that Final Fantasy XIII would only be possible on the PS3 because of Blu-Ray (because the game would be bursting at the seams with HD FMV and the like).
It could be any number of things, who knows?

I have a theory. I think the past success of the PS2 went to Sony's heads, and they thought that the companies that remained loyal to them in that time would do the same for this generation. Perhaps they assumed some sort of nonexistant 'big business friendship' (a totally paradoxical and oxymoronic term) had formed between then and now between them and the 3rd party companies, and they would remain loyal to Sony. Or, they thought the companies would have faith that the PS3 would pick up steam and it alone would provide them with financial success for their games. In short, I think Sony had a wave of naivety and forgot that 'business is the business of the business'. Companies go where the money is, not where supposed loyalty is.
The best part of this announcemnt has been the fanboy meltdowns. Here are some golden ones turned into ytmnd complete with dramtic readings. Courtesy of Dot50Cal from NeoGaf.:lol::lol:

Wow, couldn't have said it better myself. Mind if I sig it?
I knew something was going on when Wada stayed on the stage at the end of the press conference (I had to resort to Kotaku because GS wasn't working properly for me  ).
What puzzles me is why Microsoft won't be releasing it in Japan? Did they feel that Japan is pretty much a lost cause? It sure seems that way. My guess is they have unofficially given up on the 360 in Japan and have decided to allocate their resourses towards the U.S and Europe.
On a personal level, this news does not make me want to do anything rash with my PS3 since I had no interest in Final Fantasy to begin with.
In closing, avoiding System Wars for the next few days would be wise :P

Or maybe...there was nothing they could do about it short of buying Square Enix? A lot of times the most obvious answer is the best one.Teufelhuhn
There were plenty of things they could have done, many that could have been years prior to this. Securing the rights to the game, for one.
would it have been possible for Sony to publish FF13?Mordred19
We would need more information on the structure of SE in order to know what Sony could and could not do with it. It is clear though that they pretty much sat on their butts all this time and didn't even take any measures to prevent something like this from happening.

Maybe there's some of that, but another aspect is that Sony's stated shift in business strategy--they've said that they are shifting their investment to first-party games because they make more money off of those than third-party exclusives.
It's a decision that I think has and will cost them dearly (*cough*Lair*cough*Heavenly Sword).
Ladies and gentlemen, we officially have a new King of the hardcore market.
"First, we will complete the game for PS3 in Japan, then begin localization for America and Europe while developing the 360 version simultaneously. The PS3 and 360 versions will be released at the same time outside of Japan -- although, due to language and other conditions, the game may not be released simultaneously across territories." - Shinji Hashimoto
Stupid just stupid. PS3 version will not be released outside of Japan until the 360 version is complete.

Looks like a 1 console future will happen based on what I've seen from this gen.

So in one sentence you admit you have no idea of the circumstances involved with this game, and then in the next you make a bold claim about Sony's actions. I don't get it.
We have no idea what sort of back-room negotiations and arguments happened. For all we know, Sir Howard Stringer himself was on his knees in Wada's office begging him to keep it exclusive.
That article is fake. The interviewer had numerous spelling mistakes."First, we will complete the game for PS3 in Japan, then begin localization for America and Europe while developing the 360 version simultaneously. Firstly, I'm not some blind SW fanboy. You don't have to take that kind of tone with me.
1) No, I'm not. They could have, at the VERY least, listened to SE suggestions. Also, they could have made a contract with SE at the start or even before this generation for the exclusitivity of this title, when SE still held their future with Sony in good standing.
2) No, I don't. Nor did I say ANYWHERE that I did. :| I don't know what circumstances were involved, but with Sony themselves stating that they were only going to obtain the rights to first and second party games, along with them giving up exclusitivity with titles like Ace Combat, Devil May Cry, and Star Ocean with not so much as even a whimper, they seem to not even be trying to retain them.
I just don't think the "naive" answer really covers this. this is 2008, after all the delay announcements, after all the other lost exclusives, and after all the other flak being given since the start of the generation. are we still going to chaulk it up to simple blindness? it's obvious that they can see the stakes, despite the happy face and surface-attitude.Mordred19
Shall move on to plain stupidity then?
I think it's pretty obvious that Sony got blindsided by how many systems the 360 sold, and how slow the PS3 took off. They're keeping a happy face, but I *really* doubt they aren't trying to keep hold of what they can... They just got outclassed, plain and simple. Third generation curse. One thinks what was, will be again, and relaxes a second, and then another company comes and does things... better.Shall move on to plain stupidity then?
