So it's a three-way tie between Freeman, Uggla, and J-Up after 1 game.

J-Up takes the lead with 2, and add Evan Gattis to the leader board with 1.

It's funny, people keep saying the Braves will strike out a lot (they will) or score a lot of runs....Are we sure it's going to be always mutually exclusive? 16Ks for the Braves today, 8 yesterday. But 6 home runs and 16 runs.

Sounds Like Adam Dunn will be right at home if he's traded to the Braves.

There will always be at least one inter-league series going on with both leagues now having an odd number of teams.

I heard this talk somewhere too. Since there is inter league play every day, people think that it'll be best to do it. I would rather them not. I think they should switch the rule around. Let the fans see the other leagues style of play.

Oleg_Huzwog

That's like winning the World Series for us.

But yeah, we have 2 world championships in the past 16 years, but this current ownership did nothing to win those titles. That 2003 team was mainly the work of Dombrowski. The Marlins and the Pirates are the only teams in the NL that haven't played in the playoffs in the past decade. Loria thinks he is a GM and does not hold the front office accountable for the failures of the team. At some point you have to blame the GM and crew for failing to put a competitive team on the field.

I must have missed that part about early/everyday interleague play. On the top of my head, I'm not sure how that makes sense.

Since the two leagues are equal in teams 15, they need to have an inter league series or else those 2 teams would have extended layoff periods.

Yep.  Can't have any teams being idle, especially for those important Fri-Sat-Sun series that represent a large percentage of most teams' ticket sales.

I love Carlos Marmol. J-Up really crushing it, and good to see B.J joining the act. Good to see the Uptons winning it for the Braves today.

I know Lackey "only" suffered a strain today but I have an eerie feeling this is a sign of things to come.  Dude hasn't pitched competitvely since 2011 and can't make it through a whole start.  Everything about his situation screams "done" to me.

Not a good day for aces though.

If I were a Blue Jay fan i'd be getting very anxious about the start of this season so far, especially the performance of R.A. Dickey who just doesn't have anything close to the stuff he had last year.

#183 Posted by CJL13 (19137 posts) -

Also **** the Brewers, have a pitcher pinch-hit for Ryan Braun?! I don't care that he had cramps, get a pitch runner then, you just need to score a tying run or at least keep your team alive via hit.

Let's not forget, a good chunk of that Blue Jays team came over from the Marlins who lost 93 games last year.

Yeah, that too.  It's easy to get caught up in the hype but who are we really talking about here?  Everyone except for possibly Jose Reyes had foreseeable problems or likely regression.   Josh Johnson, hasn't had a good and healthy season since 2010.   Mark Burhle is 34-year-old, has never really been much more than a 3-starter, and has never had great peripherals.    Melky Cabrera, had never even been league average until (presumably) discovering steroids.  While R.A. Dickey is 38-years-old and coming off an an outlying season that was never likely to be repeated.

Not worried one little bit about the team or R.A. He did this last year, almost an identical start vs. ATL. Won 11 of next 12. He said some days, it just doesn't move, doesn't dance and he'll have 2-3 clunkers. Hope he's getting them out of the way now. My feeling is after reading some quotes and stuff, the closed dome with 40,000 people make it very humid, which doesn't help it. His best starts came in an empty dome or a cold outdoor field. Next start in KC should be better. Again, it wasn't a good day overall for pitchers. Look at Price, Strasburg, and Hamels. Strasburg is the only one to have to have a good start of those 4 guys. Price had an okay one, but was terrible today. No one is worried about them, and I'm not worried about R.A. He wasn't even bad his first start..passed balls and errors hurt him, but we can't hit. The team as a whole...I can see the Marlins thing. But only 1 everyday player was picked up in it (Reyes) and 2 pitchers, and Boni. Everyone else has been here or other trade/FA pickups. Buehrle has been an AL pitcher for 12 years, I know what to expect: 12-13 wins, mid-3 ERA, innings eater. Johnson is more of an uncertainty, but in a contact year, if healthy, I imagine he'll put up great numbers. Pitching has been fine minus today and Buehrle, and the pens been good minus Bush and Rogers. We need Lawrie back and to start hitting...terrible with RISP, only hit HR\s. I'm not worried, but if we're .500 in May...I will be.

I worried about him. Just something...different about him. Watched last nights start. I'm worried that this is near the end of his fantastic career.

I agree with Maddon cause he's right. He knew it was wrong, Nathan knew it, fans knew it and the ump knew it.

John Buck, who hit about .190 last year for the Marlins, has 4 HRs and 14 RBIs in the first week and a half of the season.

The Marlins as a team have 2 HRs and 15 runs scored.

How about Shin-Soo Choo as a darkhorse NL MVP candidate?  The guy was a stud in Cleveland, and now he gets to spend a year hitting in that tiny Cincinnati park with Votto, Phillips, and Bruce behind him.  I'm thinking 25 HR, 20 SB, .400 OBP, and 130 runs.

I don't know about that. I don't think having Votto as a teammate helps Choo (assuming Votto produces like in the past). J-Up might definitely be a contender.

Mothefvcker SOB Carlos Quentin you piece of sh!t. Greinke fractures its collarbone because this piece of trash decides to charges the mound after being hit by a pitch which had no malice behind it. And yes, most of my anger is because I have him on one of my FT. Still, it was unnecessary for him to go after Greinke.
