your top 10 video games of all time

a. I know this post has been done before like.....a gazillion times

b. No one can actually say "ok, these are my top 10" cuz there are so many great games that we've all played but give it a shot, right off the bat......oh and go crazy, give everyone ur thoughts, just let it all out

here's what i came up with as my top 10 (no particular order)

1-Mario Bros (the 1st ever Mario game on NES), I think that was the 1st decent game that I've ever played as a kid so that's why it goes on the list.....although I think Mario Bros 3 was the best. Wish I had a Nintendo console so I could play new Mario games....................ok on to the next one

2-Final Fantasy X (PS2), why is it on the list....well for starters it's FUCKING AMAZING, but the main reason is that ever since I started playing games I've always HATED....just hated rpgs; I never even knew what rpg meant (although I've played Front Mission and some Pokemon and Digimon rpg games growing up, but none of em were serious hardcore rpg titles) and I've been hooked ever fact I'm always looking for great new rpg titles nowadays

3-Dragon's Dogma "Dark Arisen" (XBOX 360): You know what bugs me more than people saying that COD is like the shit or waiting ten minutes for my dog to take a dump ? People who never appreciated this epic title and kept saying "Oh this would have been such a great game.......oh my god the story isn't that good"....

well just take a moment to really appreciate what in the hell you've just played instead of giving bad reviews trying to think of new tiny small details that you didn't like about it. This game is a fucking's like taking Dark souls, DMC, Shadow Of Colossus, Skyrim and throwing them in a blender. Now I know A LOT of people will disagree but this game was way better than all of the

aforementioned titles (YES WAY BETTER). I've spent what probably is the most amount of time playing a single title in ever, over 370 precious hours of my life and I didn't regret a second, and still crossing fingers for a DD2 with co-op online/offline mode (just me and my main pawn beating the living shit out of monsters with a friend and his/her pawn)

4-Tetris (NES): Most "gamers" won't understand how epic this game was back in the day. btw I was born in 89

5-Pokemon Crystal (GBC): If u grew up watching Pokemon/Digimon you'll know how great this was (first 2-3 seasons of the anime the rest sucked camel ass and didn't even bother watching)

6-Far Cry 3 (XBOX 360): I cant really say this is the best FPS out there but the whole game was so good i had to finish it three times (and was the first game that I was actually able to complete all Xbox achievements on so I'm really happy)

7-C&C Generals: Zero Hour (PC): Kinda racist......well in your face racist, but still my fav strategy game along with Rise Of Nations and Stronghold Crusader

8-Batman Arkham City (XBOX 360): Just epic, that's all i need to say (getting Arkham Origins tomorrow hopefully, and I heard this rumor about Miley-fucking-Cyrus being cast as one of the voice characters or something, is that true !?)

9-Sonic Generations (XBOX 360): Well actually all Sonic The Hedgehog games on SEGA too

10-Alice Madness Returns (XBOX 360): This is my go to game when I feel like smoking some MJ, it just fucks u up on so many levels

Well that's it. I'm 100% sure that most people wont agree with half or any of these games and I'm sure I've missed some great titles that should have been put there but I'm sticking with these ones.

Go crazy people, let me have it :P

Looks like they already moved it.

Edit: back on topic. While I don't have the time to make a full list now, my top 4 would be The Longest Journey, Secret of Monkey Island, American McGee's Alice, and Rollercoaster Tycoon 2.

Edit 2: Just noticed you have Madness Returns on your list. Have you played the first one?

#5 Edited by Muffin2020 (534 posts) -

For me I'd say - In no particular order and ignoring the fact if I went back to these games they would be dated I'd say.

1)Worms - Played that with friends for more hours than I can remember.

2) GTA Vice City - The Music , The 80's , The style. GTA at it's best.

3)Doom - The best single player FPS.

4)Quake - My first Online game experience.

5)World of Warcraft - Lost it's way now but spent years there loving every moment.

6)Mario 64 - Platform gaming perfected

7)Wipeout 2097 - The speed, the hours spent playing. Finest racer ever tied with below.

8)Gran Terismo 2 - Finest racer ever tied with above.

9)Warcaft 2 - Like chess but fun

10)The Last of us - A game so perfect it made me remember why I love games.

#14 Edited by El_Zo1212o (6048 posts) -

Well, let's see...

Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones. Awakening came close to taking the title of all time best Strategy RPG, but there was just something about SS that was more... I dunno... vivid?

Champions of Norrath. Maybe it was because I never had a computer that could run my own copy of Diablo 2: Lord of Destruction, but this was the best Action RPG I've ever played.

Seiken Densetsu 3. I don't think it was ever released stateside, but I played it back in the day with my best friend on remember that one?) and it was one of the best online co op games ever.

Breath of Fire. The RPG of RPGs. It taught me how to play a single game for hours at a stretch with no end in sight. I'm currently writing up a playthrough from the point of view of the silent protagonist- if instead of being amenable and silent, he were angry, vulgar and irascible. Check it out at't mind the adult content warning- I put it there for the language, not because I have porno ads or anything). Check out the entry titled The God Damn World Tour.

Captain America: Super Soldier. Despite the similarities between it and Arkham City, Cap had his own method of disassembling badguys in his game- methods that absolutely involved killing the shit out of any HYDRA nazis that goose-stepped into his path. It may not have displayed the technical perfection evident in Arkham, but it also had something I felt was lacking(hell, is still lacking) in the Arkham series- environmental interaction. It seems so small, but when you can spring up against a wall to get some airtime over an enemy's head or to launch a powerful attack, it gives you more of a feeling of control- of ownership, even- over not just the enemies, but over the environment, too.

TMNT: Out of the Shadows. The peak of the generation's fixation with reviving the Beat 'em Up genre, OotS was not only the best Ninja Turtles game of all time(thanks for the memories, Turtles in Time), but was also the near perfect mix between old school co op brawling and modern strike/counter/special melee combat. Yes it had issues, but no it doesn't make it less of an achievement for a brand I love to death.

Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow. The tip of the top in the Metroidvania genre. The story was amazing, the weapons were varied and being able to collect and equip subweapons was revolutionary.

Marvel vs Capcom. The only fighting game I ever played to the point where I could just about mop the floor with any challenger who felt like wasting a quarter.

Contra. Baby's first action game. I used to watch my brothers play it on our NES when I was, what? 4 or 5? Then came the Alien Wars, and after that, I was so sorry to see the brand languish with nothing but indifferent shooters- 3d, 2d, twin stick, and all the rest. I felt like Lost Planet 2(a Capcom game) was the best Contra game since the SNES.

Spiderman 2. The game that, arguably, invented the idea of Arkham Combat. The first brawler to feature a dodge+counter mechanic, and the only game ever to capture the sheer magic of swinging around a city hauling ass and stunting over, around and between buildings.

Of /All/ time? Here's a one-sitting list, I won't change it after I think of the other top-ten...

FF-9: Heisted the materia system, added better graphics and more purpose to the characters...while still maintaining the charm, ...and the story had a good iteration as well.

Chip & Dale: Rescue Rangers: This game taught me the virtues taking a break. Plus fun game-play using the blocks as both a weapon & a shield...I could go on.

Crystalis: This is my Zelda.

Metal Gear 3: Refined controls, large levels over vast landscape, Epic comic-style bosses, all wrapped around some drama that was the heath-system was unique & engaging.

Sonic 1-3: Colors, speed, coins,, codes, levels, spin-dash, bonus levels.

Mega Man 2: The right mixture of creative levels, music, challenge, & boss logic.

Castlevania 3: Expanded from the first 2, refined the controls, gave some choices, kept the stellar music and the challenge.

Loom: An adventure unlike any other in the universe.

Suikoden Tierkreis: sort of a, culmination of RPG stories, rolled into a mega-team of confused world-savers. Great pacing and mechanics, with a variety of attacks to sort out.

Gabriel Knight: I learned about Voodoo and New Orleans...and the word "damn". Lots of style, art, puzzles, and mystery.

Of course, I could keep going.

So many great games, and it's hard to choose. MGS2 though is my favorite game of all time by far, I remember playing it for the first time in 2001 and blew me away. Metal Gear Solid was awesome for the PS, but there was such a huge technological leap with MGS2, the characters, the story we're the best in the series.

Team Fortress Classic - it's the first game to really get me addicted to multiplayer gaming. Played competitively (in leagues) for close to 7 years on a few of the NA top 25 TFC teams of all time.

Grim Fandango

- dark noir creative humor and fantastic puzzles. one of my favorite point and click adventures of all time.

Planescape: Torment

- has one of the best stories I've ever experienced in the gaming medium. extremely dark and very descriptive. I'm planning on getting another playthrough going soon.

Storm of Progear

- probably shouldn't come as a surprise that my favorite genre is shoot 'em ups (shmups), and for some reason I get hooked on horizontal bullet hell games (there are very few). Ever since I had a hands on with the PCB at a Chicago shmupsmeet, I had to buy a board for myself and haven't put it down since. I'm actually about a month away (of training) to finally 1CC it. Made it to the final boss on 1 credit last weekend.

- very quirky, charming, and touching story for a run-of-the-mill RPG.

Mother 3

- the Mother installment following EarthBound. It still retains it's quirkiness and it's the perfect follow up to such a fun RPG. fantastic soundtrack and very creative.

Battle Garegga

- possibly the best shmup ever created. part of the shinobu yagawa bat trilogy, battle garegga nailed everything essential to the genre. the soundtrack (and arrange soundtrack) are to die for. marginal consciousness could possibly be my favorite videogame song ever. the game employs a strict rank system which would later be utilized in other Yagawa titles. I still haven't 1 credit cleared it, but the desire is there and I plan on doing so when I have enough time to practice.

Sin & Punishment: Star Successor - anything by Treasure is fantastic, but S&P: SS is the one true next-gen release from Teasure on the Wii which is a natural fit for the wii-mote. edge of your seat action intensity with unique boss fights.

The Sea Will Claim Everything - created by a small time, well-read, foriegn director/developer Jonas Kyratzes. the entire game is made in MS paint which can be offputting at first, but once you experience the game you will realize that it's part of the charm. TSWCE has truly unique throwaway dialogue and descriptions that can please even the wittiest of story writers. TSWCE was my 2012 GOTY which easily the best story the year had to offer (sorry walking dead fans).

Bayonetta - the hack-n-slash genre used to be my absolute favorite, so it shouldn't come as a surprise that a Hideki Kamiya game will fall in my list. one of - if not "the" - most complex hack-n-slash games released in the previous gen, with an unrealistic amount of replayability if you plan on trying to master the combat system. the game offers what truly any hardcore hack-n-slash fan is looking for.

1. Final Fantasy X

By far the best game i have ever played.

I had never played a FF game but i had played RPG's before. I got the game on impulse. I had $20, it was $20, i got it. I switch on my PS2 and seeing the intro screen mesmerised me from the start.

At first i wasn't sure as to what was happening with Sin and going from past to present. But once I met Yuna, i was hooked. Loved every character especially Wakka and Loved the general setting and gameplay.

250+ hours spent on it and will do it again in HD when it comes out. The only game my brother was soooo immersed in that he would want me to continue the story at any opportunity. Prized Possession.

I would talk about my other choices but it will take forever:-P

2. GTA San andreas-Need I say more?

3. Final Fantasy 7- Lovely game, despite playing ffx 1st and being used to dialogue, I cared about the story and was hurt at what happened in the Forest to a main character.

4. Crash Team Racing-100+ hours playing with matez

5. Super Mario Bros- Addictive yet so simple

6-Timesplitters FP- Addictive SP and fun MP. love the co-op.

7. COD4-1st game i really played online. 70+days on it. Became a killing sensation.

8. TLOU- Need I say more? This will probably rise in years when u appreciate it more.

9. Digimon World 2- I was a massive fan and having a game where i could be them was just amazing.

10-Canis Canem Edit- I was a boarder and related to this game on so many levels i felt like it was made for me:-P Fantastic gameplay too

I'm too lazy right now to type out detailed explanations, but I'll add a very brief explanation to my choices.

1. Chrono Cross-Gorgeously exotic aesthetics, unique storyline, fresh and rewarding battle system, does away with grinding, second best soundtrack in gaming.

2. The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask-Unsettling and odd atmosphere that sets it apart from the rest of the series, awesome premise, intricate sidequests, NPCs have lots of personality.

3. Final Fantasy 9-Fantastic and loveable cast with lots of development, excellent writing, excellent storytelling, and the best art design you're going to find in a traditional fantasy-styled RPG. Oh, and it has Vivi, the best RPG character ever.

4. Super Mario Galaxy 2-Expert level design, endless imagination. All that needs to be said.

5. Persona 4-A superb story, fantastic cast, excellent writing, emotionally engaging social links, amazing style, keeps you guessing to the very end.

6. Phoenix Wright trilogy-Fantastic and loveable cast, lots of narrative tension, funny/sharp writing, clever detective story-esque plots.

7. Xenoblade Chronicles-Amazingly vast world, interesting twists on the FF12 battle system, encourages exploration of the game's beautiful vistas, exciting story.

8. Final Fantasy 10-Gorgeous, exotic aesthetics, well-developed lore that makes the world feel lived in and dynamic, excellent storytelling, best soundtrack in gaming.

9. Chrono Trigger-Awesome premise, immediately fun gameplay, excellent pacing, charming characters, amazing sidequests.

10. Grand Theft Auto: Vice City-Nails its atmosphere in a way no other game does, amazing licensed soundtrack, good mix of mission types, awesome environment to explore.
