Your favorite fighting game series?

The fighting game genre has grown popular with the rise of popular franchises like Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, Dead or Alive, Virtua Fighter, Tekken and much more. Personally the Dead or Alive series is my favorite fighting game series but I wanna hear from all of you what your favorite series is. Please let me know. Thanks!

Also, 2D >>> 3D, for fighters. (altho Tekken and VF have their moments)

Guilty Gear very likely, if not definitely for 2D fighting.

Soul Calibur series

I voted for Street Fighter since it's my favorite 2D one, but I can't decide if I like it best. I put Virtua Fighter and Soul Calibur right alongside it. 

In general, I probabnly spend the most time with the Mortal Kombat series, but I have to give respect to Killer Instinct and the earlier Tekken games, too.

Really close between Street Fighter and Tekken, but Tekken has a better control layout for me.  I like how there's a button for right and left arm and leg, it really allows me to put together some amazing combos without really learning the characters.  I've always felt like the fluidity of combat in Tekken games is unmatched. 

Mortal Kombat is the only one i've gotten any lasting enjoyment out of.

My favorite is the King of Fighters series, followed by the Capcom Versus games.

For me Tekken has the best mix of pure ridiculousness, a reasonable learning curve, and cool moves I pick TekkenJML897

Hmmm I dont know.  none of them are masterful IMO.  I want to see a really full featured fighter with plenty to do that has quality fighting and such.  I would say something that...

combines the unlocking weapons and such of Soul Calibur 2

with the skill involved in Street Fighter

with the brutality and atmosphere of Mortal Kombat

and then a lot more awesomeness added on top.

Street Fighter is great, but it has always felt rather bare bones to me.  I think my favorite is Soul Calibur 2.  That or One Must Fall 2097.  Awesome game!

3D - Dead or Alive series (followed by Tekken)

Killer Instinct was the only "true" fighting game I ever got into.

Other the that stipulation Smash bros is king in my mind.

Marvel vs Capcom 2 might be the greatest fighting game ever made though.
