I think some people do pay anything really. I for one don't se the point in it. I play mmo most of the time and to our 60+ people there are at least few female players. But I don't see the point in it at all. I want to play with people who play the games. It doesn't matter if it's a guy or girl. It would be the same thing if I pay to play with asian person.
