Poll: Would you like to play on GameSpot Game Servers? (95 votes)

Yeah 79%
Nah 21%

Hey guys,

Just trying to gauge interest for the idea of Gamespot hosting game servers for games like DayZ, Rust, BF4 etc etc.

Does this interest you guys 'n' gals?

Do you think it would be a good idea, somewhere we as a community could play together.

Give me a yeah or nah and post any ideas or comments you may have.

I don't have any particular ideas but I like the sound of it.

Cool beans, If anyone puts no then let us know why.

I would play on GS servers. Probably would be nice if they were decent servers and not just bottom of the barrel.

Would definitely play on a UK DayZ server.

YES

All depends on what the game is and how the server is set up.

Sounds great

Playing dedicated servers with people you chat to on a regular basis elsewhere is the best way of making 'internet buddies' :D

I wish WoW had a GS server.

#14 Posted by Gargus (2147 posts) -

Id rather travel back in time to the 90s and play on segas heat.net servers again than play on anything run by gamespot.

#15 Posted by Klunt_Bumskrint (4039 posts) -

@Gargus: Lets imagine the servers would work perfectly.

#16 Posted by sukraj (23060 posts) -

No

#17 Posted by bowchicka07 (1075 posts) -

Or ruining any kind of relationship you had with that person.

I really don't care one way or the other although i'm sure it would have to have sort of subscription or be ad supported. Both options aren't very appealing.

#21 Edited by airshocker (29932 posts) -

Also, it depends on where the server is hosted.

#22 Posted by harry_james_pot (10949 posts) -

Only if it's in Europe.

#23 Edited by Klunt_Bumskrint (4039 posts) -

I'd assume there would be US and Europe servers....

#24 Edited by jacquelineferre (84 posts) -

That is a joke. GS can't even make a proper website, just imagine they trying to run a server.

#25 Posted by SaintJimmmy (2815 posts) -

Im down, I always thought this would be a cool idea ever since the GW2 Gamespot Guild that actually went pretty solid

#26 Edited by The_Last_Ride (72491 posts) -

If it is well organized, then i see why not

This is my thinking

I began gaming around the age of 10, playing UT on the PC with my brother. I joined his clan and chatted to the same people as he, who were in another clan. Amongst those people was a fellow girly gamer, who to this day I still talk to (10 years on) and regard as one of my closest friends.

Basically, as true as my first point was (imo), the idea works the opposite way too. Playing with/against the same people over a period time can lead onto more conversation back onto a forum that you may not have known was a common interest, and who knows where that would lead!

We know of many occasions where gamers have started converse through a game and have later ended up a happily married couple.

Could this be an opportunity for a 'Gamespots' Cupid Spot' show? Who knows!

Fo' sho' would love to play CS:GO on gamespot servers, and if you ever do, PLEASE make it a private IP so no one but the GS community can join :)

Speaking of playing together, I created a Gamespot Battlefield 4 platoon. Here's the link:

all those livestreams i wish there was a way we can play with them and be part of the stream

#34 Edited by Parado_xx (95 posts) -

Sure, see no reason why not. Well, as long as there are decent servers.

#35 Posted by yngsten (224 posts) -

I think it's a great idea!

#36 Edited by Starshine_M2A2 (4089 posts) -

Hell yes. I'd be there in a second!

#37 Edited by Behardy24 (4670 posts) -

@airshocker: I would suppose if this actually happens that the servers would be held throughout both East and West of USA, UK, Australia, and maybe Asia (though I doubt). And the reason I presume that is because GameSpot has got offices in all those locations, so it wouldn't be hard starting up a server in those regions for them.

I recently found out that my computer can easily run Battlefield 4. So when I get the chance to get one of those Origin pre-paid cards I would definitely join in this platoon. Can't say when this will happen, but it will happen.

#39 Posted by JP_ (12876 posts) -

I would and I could accommodate and Minecraft Server as Im a server owner

#40 Posted by Behardy24 (4670 posts) -

Yes Please.

#41 Posted by stevenhearnn (37 posts) -

I would definitely love to play on gamespot game servers but would like to know how the server is set up.

#42 Posted by BattleSpectre (6252 posts) -

No, why? Because no dedicated Australian servers.

#43 Edited by donmuath (62 posts) -

No, not for these games because they already have support; now a gamespot server dedicated to old games that lost multiplayer support like AOE II etc would be a good idea. Something like Voobly or gameranger.

#44 Edited by Matas_0R_Not (50 posts) -

ofcourse i would, make it linux to because i dont think im going to do gaming on windows aka life invader (gta windows phone, trevor)

#47 Posted by Klunt_Bumskrint (4039 posts) -

Come on @tempertress I'm sure you have the room, 1 under the sink, 1 in the cupboard.....

yes please

Depending on the games, I might play. A small hope of mine is to be able to play Battlefront 2 online for the first time and there actually will be players after all this time since its initial release.

Yes! We should try to gather up as many gamespot forum users (maybe GiantBomb and GameFaqs users too?) and do that. I never played Battlefront online with other actual players. I think that would be Great!
