Obviously, Nintendo never meant the Super Famicom to be imported, so why all the English?

There is english on a lot of japanese game/movies/etc as well. Quite a few japanese games(only released in japan at that) have english menus(mostly arcade-like games such as shmups) or titles. Songs and movies also sometimes randomly have a line or two spoken in english randomly as well. As for the reason why, I have no idea.
