Why is it that 2D games seem to be more timeless

Because I don't know... Just keep playing... We'l figure it out eventually.

Truth be Told, Gameplay itself is Timeless regardless of the orientation, wether its 2D or 3D... Perhaps the reason 3D is not so timeless is because it can always be improved, theres always new ways to make use of a 3rd Dimension.

3D games age a lot worse than 2d games.

It probably is usually just nostalgia in many instances. Some games, however, just can't be imagined in 3D... 2D works best for them, although absolutely no examples are coming to me right now.

Hell even The Swapper can be 3D with alil work and alot of Tutorials.
