I like both of them because I am a huge fan of Grand Theft Auto and these two games are pretty awesome to play at home so guy's decide which GTA game is better GTA:San Andreas or GTA:Vice City.

I like them both but definitely GTA San Andreas because it was my 1st GTA game and the map was just FULL of things to do I literally replayed that game over 10 times and with each playthrough I found something new to do in it.

Driving school

Racing

Jetpack mayhem. You name it, you probably could do it. The unofficial GTA SA online on PC also kept me coming back for a lot more so I definitely say GTA SA was the better game.

GTA: San Andreas - I just got way more game time outta this, so much fun, I put it above GTA IV - I mean once you finished that there was nothing to do, apart from bowling or a silly helicopter tour. Even online was only fun at times.

Story, setting, music: Vice City. I'm an 80s survivor, so the music of my youth holds a special appeal to me.

But for sheer gameplay nirvana, it has to be San Andreas. It has a great story, great music, and the best gameplay of the series. I still don't think an open-world game has topped it. Saints Row 2 came close, but I still feel San Andreas edges it out by a small margin.

Vice City for me because of the setting, characters, and music. I never could get into San Andreas but it came out near the end of a generation so I was wanting to move on to better graphics and I was getting tired of the loose gameplay mechanics of GTA. GTA IV fixed that though and got me back into the franchise.

If you have to choose, get San Andreas for sure. Its much more dynamic, more weapons, more things to do.

I didn't like San Andreas . For me characters were uninteresting and graphics were very outdated . Yes but overall there were lot of things to do in that game compared to vice city . I like more realistic approach to games , so it may sound odd but I like GTA 4 more than both . Not huge fan of GTA though .

GTA: Vice City for it's great story and setting.

But GTA: San Andreas, had everything I wanted out of a Crime game, or at least it was heading that way. I mean customizable main character, hit the gym, or eat the food, you had betting shops, arcade games, you could rob houses at night, you could street race, shops, bikes, rags to riches sort of story, I mean when Rockstar moved onto ps3/360, I was pretty heart broken that we went from a packed out map to a pretty shabby non interactive map, and even GTA5 doesn't have much replay value, I mean there is no reason to gain more money after the end and mess about because there is nothing to do, except side activities which are dare i say it, to nice for a gta game, I'm not playing gta to try out my tennis skills or golf skills i have tiger woods for that or who ever it's gonna be, and i have top spin and actual tennis for that, I want straight up crime activity and i want to make it big and mess around. I mean GTA5 the gangs don't even play a part at all

My top 5 GTA games are

1: GTA IV
2: GTA Vice City
3: GTA SA
4: GTA V
5: GTA III

So i will say GTA VC felt better than GTA SA even tho SA had a lot more to do.

For me, it's Grand Theft Auto Vice City.

In Grand Theft Auto San Andreas, your character is constantly swearing. You crash, you hit someone or you get hit: swearing, swearing and swearing. You are even constantly swearing at the people who are supposed to be your friends, and vice versa. The missions consist of going to the barber, going to the restaurant, putting some graffiti on walls, walking into a house and batting everyone to death, shooting bottles etcetera. Really uninteresting. I don't feel like there is any goal in the game at all. Instead of that, I am just doing the missions while thinking "Whatever..." The streets are also full of armed gangs that attack you. This game might have more possibilities than Grand Theft Auto Vice City, but the horrible atmosphere and the way everything looks are just ruining everything.

Grand Theft Auto Vice City consists of a character that doesn't swear so much and acts much cooler and more confident. He gets along with his friends and the missions consists of killing other criminals or stealing drugs. Unlike Grand Theft Auto San Andreas, there is a clear goal in the game and you work towards it. The meetings between people are fun to see. They don't feel like a pain in the ass any more. The city is beautiful and the atmosphere (especially in the Cuban café) is appealing.

@markwiering: In regards to the missions. Did you get past the first section of the game? San Andreas has a slow start, I'd say you've got to get to the point where you leave Los Santos before it really kicks into it's stride.

And if you've ever met any gang members, they swear. A LOT. Even to their friends.

San Andreas. Vice City was great, but SA was an improvement across the board. Better graphics, better story, more weapons, jet pack, huge world, more content, more missions. Not that VC was bad at all, it's just that SA was a super aweseome game wherease Vice City was just awesome.

I like Vice City due to nostalgia and the Scarface references better, however San Andreas was a larger innovative jump from the previous title than Vice City.
