Hard call, either Final Fantasy VIII or Mass Effect I think.

Either MGS series (final battle from MGS1 had epic music), or God of War.

Metal Gear is alright, up there indeed.

But from the Bit generation of MiDi's probably Final Fantasy 1, VI, or IV. Or Zelda...

From orchestraded newer games, Probably FFX, Shadow of the Colossus

Castlevania: Symphony of the Night has "the best" score to grace a game. It is fluid, well-written and highly varied, all of which only compounds with the action to make the game even more enjoyable. Most of the Castlevania games have fantastic soundtracks.

Shadow of the Colossus has "the best used" score in a game. It of course is very well-written as well but what makes it stand out more, instead of it being varied is the fact it is used so well in conjunction with the action on screen. Some of the transitions between tracks are a little abrupt but for the most part only give a sense of "epic" that can hardly be found any where else in gaming. That and the fact you don't hear music unless during a cutscene or when fighing a Colossus only gives the player an even greater feeling.

Legend of Mana

Unfortunately the game never implemented any of the tracks correctly. Other than the opening and the boss music.

It has an anthology of music from some of the best videogame franchises that pride themselves on great production values.

MetalGear_Ninty

Yeah I agree. Old school Ninty games had some awesome and just plain classic music. Sometimes I still find myself humming tunes from Donkey Kong Country and Kirbys Dreamland, especially the final bossfights.

And since I'm replaying Mario RPG on wii(finally!!!), I thoughted I'd mention how great and memorable that score is as well.

Final Fantasy 8 -Waltz of the Moon.

The prince of Norway actually had that song in his wedding when he danced all alone with his bride and it was broadcasted Live on the TV.
