With the exception of the present era of gaming, I often go back and have a look at the Jrpgs that companies made. I look back at Enix, Tecmo, Squaresoft, Enix, 1999 minus Capcom, Sega, Atlus, Natsume, Falcom, Konami, Sony and look at all the great games they brought us that we will never most likely see again. Games like Breath of Fire 3, Final Fantasy 6, 7, and 8, with a splash of 9, Enix and its triad of original games and always getting experimental devs with Paladains Quest, Brain Lord, Robo, 7th Saga, and the popular Dragon Warrior series. Konami with Suikoden and Vandal Hearts, Capcom with Breath of Fire, and now I am yammering names instead of getting to the point, But anyway, i want to know which companies are/where your favorites. I will list my top 3 now:

Neverland is peerless for this game alone. Nothing from Square, Enix, Atlus, SEGA, or Capcom is worthy of comparison.

Square. Companies become synonymous with a genre for a reason, you know.

Baten Kaitos, Baten Kaitos Origins, and Tales of Symphonia (and Vesperia) are all amazing games.

Hard to say for me at the moment, since most games I still want to play were either never translated or are too pricey in English.

I'm surprised no one mentioned NIHON FALCOM, since they were one of the most influental Japanese RPG makers in history.

Most every other Japanese programmers were influenced by their works, at least a little, in one way or another.

Damn that's a tough one. My favorite JRPG is Persona 4 which makes me want to go for Atlus, but I also enjoy the majority of the Final Fantasy series more than I do the rest of Atlus' games, which makes me think I should go for Squaresoft instead.

Falcom's games are only sporadically released in the West. I think that has a lot to do with it.

Maybe. Now they're just like any other company though, but they did made the best RPGs in the past, and everyone else used to copy them.

FALCOM was making RPGs when ENIX was still making shoddy eroge. SQUARE earlier RPGs like BLASSTY were total rubbish until they released FINAL FANTASY. The rest of the companies didn't even exist.

True. Falcom played an important role in laying the foundations for the Japanese RPG industry as well as the action RPG sub-genre. It's worth noting that the first RPG published by Squaresoft was the MSX port of Falcom's Dragon Slayer. In addition, the idea for the Final Fantasy series having a new gameplay system each time was inspired by the Dragon Slayer series. Beyond RPG's, even The Legend of Zelda was influenced by the Dragon Slayer series.

That's what the "Other" option is for. Polls are limited to 5 options on this forum.
