Tie Between Pokémon LeafGreen, Halo 2, Half-Life 2, Star Wars Battlefront and Dawn of War

wow, I just took a look at some of the games and there are some seriously good ones: obviously, halo2. great campaign and I will never understand the ridiculous negatives people attributed to it. for me, Riddick and I couldn't wait to by Athena. burnout 3, lol, what a fun game. my family still plays it together and is the only sport-type game I own. fable was ok, but, attempted some great things. oh man, I see that doom3 is on this list, too?! i'm still waiting to buy the bfg edition. half-life 2. kotor2. and, for me, pop:warrior within is one of those pure underrated games. people literally complained about the music and different tone of the setting, lol. the game combat was much better and the game was a much more mature and sophisticated game.

all I can say is wow, what a year in gaming. I regularly replay all of the games I listed. we're talking about some of the best games ever and so is this the best year of gaming in history? i'd love to see some other lists to compare it with.

A fantastic year, my choice would be World of Warcraft

One of the highest scoring games is half life 2 which came out in 2004, this is out of all platforms too. The game is just amazing :D

What a strange question.

10years ago i think my favorite game was Black&White and wow.

#12 Posted by SoNin360 (5567 posts) -

I don't even know off the top of my head. I didn't play a whole lot of games then. GTA San Andreas was either 2004 or 2005, so I would definitely say that if it was 2004. Otherwise I'll go with whatever Pokemon game came out that year.

So many amazing games that year, just wow! I'd have to say Ninja Gaiden. Notable mention Halo2 mp, Half-life 2, MGS3. When will we get a year as good as 2004 gaming wise. sigh.

Wow, that's a tough one. It's either Ninja Gaiden or Far Cry for me. I'd probably go with Ninja Gaiden.

Why 2004? why not 2008 or 10 or 1992 ?

Just a strange question to ask "what's your favorite game in 04" out of the blue.

#32 Posted by flukemmvii (7 posts) -

@Jacanuk: Haha, I'm just asking people what they think. Maybe 2004 is my favorite year? A lot of great games did come out that year which have shaped the games that we are playing nowadays.

San Andreas was the game that made me love open world action games and the GTA series.

#35 Posted by ZZoMBiE13 (22911 posts) -

@speedfreak48t5p: I was on board from GTA 3. But San Andreas is the one I consider the gold standard of the open-world sandbox games. The only one that comes close is Saints Row 2, and I'd still put San Andreas higher on the list of all time best.

Paper Mario: TTYD
Metroid Prime 2
Prince of Persia Warrior Within
Ratchet and Clank Up your arsenal

I think that's a fairly decent list of my favorite from that year.

#37 Posted by Mesomorphin (826 posts) -

wow man is that even a question.....Halo 2 of course

#38 Posted by Cloud_imperium (4336 posts) -

Half Life 2 .

#39 Posted by c_rakestraw (14759 posts) -

Burnout 3: Takedown. Still the best racing game ever made.

#40 Posted by judaspete (429 posts) -

Many of my all time favorite games came out in 03 and 04. What was it about that time? Maybe that's when developers had had enough time to fully utilize the capabilities of gen 6 systems.

I agree with most of the games people have already listed and will add:

DefJam: Fight for NY

Mario Power Tennis

Katamari Damacy

Alien Hominid

Metroid: Zero Mission

Warioware: Twisted
