Please post here the Role Playing Game that started your addiction into RPGs! Mine was the original Dragon Warrior on the NES. I was about 7 or 8 years old when that game was first released. Back then, we didn't have the internet to check on reviews or watch videos on the games before coming to a decision whether that game was worth picking up. We did have Nintendo Power magazine and Gamepro magazine but most of our decisions were influenced by either a friend who already owned and played the game and the box art. The box art on the original Dragon Warrior, to me, looked awesome. A knight staring down a huge dragon drawed me to the game. The second I popped the NES cart in and started to play, it confused the heck out of me on what to do. RPGs weren't that abundant and popalar at the time as 2D action/adventure/platformers dominated that era of gaming. Without the internet or any type of game guide, I attempted to figure out the game myself. Luckily for me, I had a cousin who also owned and beaten the game which helped me figure out the parts I got stuck while playing. Once I figured out what to do, I thoroughly enjoyed that style of game and wanted another like it. Then came DW2, DW3, and DW4 shortly after, which expanded and improved what the original had started. I did own and play the original Final Fantasy but it was the original Dragon Warrior that started it for me. What about you?

I don't how it all started but Final Fantasy XIII was the last straw. Now I'm just glad its over. Thats the thing with RPG's, the sneak up on and by the time you realise whats happening you're already in too deep.

Probably Drakan:  The Ancient Gates on PS2.  Though it was more of an open world action/adventure game with RPG-style leveling up of weapons, armor, spells, etc., it really got me interested in that concept. I think Final Fantasy XII was the first "official" RPG I ever played and I loved that too.

Final Fantasy VIII (PS)

This game blew my mind! From the intro, to Squall personality, the relationship throughout the story, his GUNBLADE. From the battle system to the Guardian Forces - being introduced to Shiva and Quetzalcoatl - fighting Ifrit for the first time, holy shit! :o I would spend HOURS! playing Triple Triad. LOL god I was a nerd. FFVIII holds SO many nostalgia moments in my childhood days. Favorite RPG I have ever played.... it was my first

Might & Magic VII: For Blood and Honor (PC)

This game made me grow up fast. Being on that Island when you first get off the boat and being introduced to the village people in first person was awesome, but then you realize this island isn't all jolly like after about 2 minutes in - freaking giant fire flys and a big ass dragon occupy it as well :o I had a blast though. Never really understood the story, but the gameplay and adventure alone was fascinating to my at that age. Never will forget it.

I remember renting some RPGs on the Genesis but at the time I just couldn't get into them. It wasn't until Pokemon that I first began to enjoy RPGs and then I tried Golden Sun and I still didn't enjoy it much. Tales of Symphonia was the first non-Pokemon RPG that I enjoyed playing. After that, I went back and played  some older 3D RPGs dating back to Final Fantasy VII. The Tales series is still my favorite RPG series though. I still can't get into top down sprite based RPGs with the unusual exception of Pokemon.

None. I just watched some gameplay footage and looked up stuff on RPG games and I was suddenly very interested in them. After Morrowind, though, I did start getting an RPG crave so I guess Morrowind.

First RPG I remember playing was Pokemon Crystal. First one I played seriously was Sapphire. I guess you could say that game was the doorway to the awesome world of JRPGs.

Sword of Hope on the original GBA.  It was basically a Phatasy Star rip-off.  But I still hum the tune to this day.

The person assumes the role of Prince Theo whose father, King Hennessy has become corrupt and maniacal with power. He has enslaved the kingdom and exiled the great wisemen who once maintained the balance and prosperity of the kingdom. Theo's mother Queen Remy was killed by Hennessy but Theo was rescued from the castle without harm with the help of an old sage. Now that Theo has reached his teenage years and become a skilled warrior it is time for Theo to face his destiny and return to the castle where he was raised and defeat his father.

My first major RPG love affair was with Illusion of Time on the SNES (such a great story, and I can still hear the closing credits music to this day). If I'm honest though Final Fantasy 7 takes the credit for convincing me to really explore the genre. Nothing I had played before had prepared me for anything quite like Square's masterpiece.

The early Ultimas. My Jr high math teacher had them on his Amiga, and after tutoring he'd let me play. It wasn't the first Ultima but like 3 or 4 I believe. Great games.

Oh, Lunar...Such a great game!

Yeah, I had been gaming since the NES, but I had never played an RPG. The closest I got was Zelda. I always thought they were 'nerd games' (I was a dumb kid that failed to realize we are all nerds >_>). Then I saw something about a 6 hour ending in Lunar 2 and gave part 1 a shot. I was hooked on RPG's from that point on

TES IV: Oblivion. I'd pretty much only played Pokemon as far as RPGs go before it. Shortly after Oblvion I picked up Morrowind and liked that even more-- not a common reaction of people who played Oblivion before Morrowind apparently. Both Oblivion and Morrowind gave me this wonderful sense of confusion and awe at the vast scale of the world and the amount of things there were to do. RPGs have been my favorite genre ever since.
