Was there ever a game that was bad that you actually liked? If so what?

Ok Lulu calm down lol.

On topic: Alpha protocol

It was one of those rare times where I was willing to overlook mediocre gameplay because of the espionage RPG elements.

Of course there is and was and will be, in fact most times i will go towards games that get a bad review because i know those are usually good games.

But in the end i wouldn't dream of letting anyone decide a game purchase for me, if i find a game interesting i will buy it no matter what review score it got. After all who knows my taste better than me

I haven't played enough games that got straight up bad reviews to really have a good answer to this. If a game gets terrible scores, I avoid it (I will buy a game that gets lukewarm/mixed/mediocre scores however).

One badly reviewed game I bought was Sonic Unleashed. I did like the daytime stages, but the nighttime stages were a truly painful experience.

@behardy24: Mass Effect got glowing reviews when it first came out, so I don't think it counts here.

Try RYSE: Son of Rome, the game got a 4/10, when in actual reality its a brilliant game with incredible visuals, acting and story along with a batman kind of combat system, easily give it a 8.5/10!

Lost Odysseyat a 7.5. That's the lowest I think. Most of the games I'm excited about end up being pretty good so there aren't many clunkers out there.

It isn't poorly reviewed by people since the user score is 8.0 but critics slammed it because why not and so it's critics score is 58. Yep the game is Lords of Shadow 2.

Maybe RE6 cuz of story and characters But I mostly blame Chris' campaign and bad mission design for these bad scores. IGN gave it 7.9, I think that's a good score.

I think they do to a certain extent, especially if one is on a budget. If a game gets bad reviews across the board, that does say something.

That's not to say that people shouldn't form their own opinions, but some people don't have the time or money to take chances on games that have a high chance of being bad.

Ryse got low scores all around, but aside from the repetitive nature of gameplay, it really was a fantastic game.

two worlds 1 is the most obvious, for me. it's voice acting was a free comedy act and it's gameplay was very capable.

alpha protocol is the other off the top of my head.

well Gamespot gave Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze a 6/10.

When I play it, I see the most painstakingly crafted loveletter to fans of the platforming genre. The developers clearly put a lot of love and attention into every little detail of this game producing something entirely devoid of flaw and goes far beyond what most if not all platformers offer.

-It has pitch perfect level design. There is a clear purpose to everything and when you get to speed runs you can see that each level was carefully crafted for challenge, exploration, and speed runs.

-pitch perfect controls

-exceptional art direction/visuals

-some of the best animation I've seen in a game

-backgrounds that don't even loop, but actually tell a story of their own

-offers a good deal of challenge in the normal play through, but really comes into its own on hard mode

-the time trials offer endless replayability and it's great to be able to view the replays of everybody in your friends list as well as every level's top ten times.

-It even has one of the best soundtracks in gaming from the original Donkey Kong Country composer David Wise.

Tropical Freeze is the very pinnacle of a genre and I can not in good conscience give it any lower than a 10/10. It is absolute perfection.

Reviews don't determine what games I buy or play but I'll bite.

Duke Nukem Forever. Had so much fun with that game despite all of its flaws.

I don't think it was poorly reviewed, but it did get a lot of mixed ones. Bound by Flame, I really enjoyed that game. It has absolutely no replay value though, if you ask me.

Blade Kitten, but I feel it would have been better if it had the same type of graphics, but was open world instead, longer and had better gameplay.

Resident Evil 6 I bought just to see how bad it was and enjoyed it quite a lot! Especially Leons campaign. Halo wars got a 5 here I think but I enjoyed that at the time.

Trouble is most people consider a game badly reviewed even when it got mixed or just "average reviews" It's like if a game didn't get 9s everywhere then it's automatically a flop or bad which I hate that perception. I suppose the Kane and Lynch series they have so much potential yet they always seem mess up an aspect of it that keeps it from becoming great. First one with clunky gun play but good variety and engaging characters, second one with a short abysmal story compared to the first but with enjoyable game play. Also Destroy All Humans the last one, don't get me wrong it was rushed, buggy, voice acting was a mixed bag, was cancelled in the US was unknown reasons but I still enjoyed just blowing up cities and causing havoc.
