...in next gen gameplay? I was thinking about gameplay, and what you can actually do in a game. There are some amazing games on previous gen consoles, how much can next gen improve on that gameplay wise? I remember when the 360 came out, I didn't start seeing a difference in the gameplay till a while after it's release. Do you think there is still a lot of room for improvement in gameplay? Any ideas on how it can improve?

Time to Start embracing them Motion Controls baby !

Like seriously... unless they can add more organic control methods (More Analogue less Binary) to the controller its self (Microsoft has failed severely in this department whilst Nintendo have gone above and Beyond)

For me, it's not so much brand new types of gameplay so much as it is moving away from the hands off gameplay. There were too many games last gen that were overly linear with too many scripted sequences.

That kind of game isn't inherently bad (I enjoy a few of them like that) but it's such a shame that the emphasis seems to be taken off the gameplay.

For me i just want bigger RPG's. Just more to explore and do. The last gen games were limited that way. I am very excited for the next gen Dragon Age, that is going to kick all kinds of ass

There is always room for improvement. Personally I would like to see better AI, but you cannot improve the program until its better than human either. I think there would be less bitching by everyone if maybe they put more processing power into things like say the director from LFD where the game adapts to you. Your a skilled player get skilled AI, newb get newb AI. And maybe then we would hear less bitching about handholding and casuals or what not. Would also cut down on having to find the best difficulty for certain games, or genres your familiar with.

  • Better AI
  • No more infinite ammo clips for enemy soldiers
  • Larger game worlds (not empty wastelands, either...)
  • The death of 2D trees and crowds in racing games (lol)
  • Better integration of story into gameplay, as opposed to the two being almost separate entities and having a huge disconnect

Maybe their Size is the reason for their lack of entertainment.....

Also the Size of the game should compliment the gameplay mechanics..... Many games just can't pull this off and thats what leads to linear missions in Open World games.

It seems like there is little room for innovation left. It's all about excellent game design today.

But yeah, hopefully with the success of the Souls games marks the return of dark fantasy. Car combat games have become a rarity as well.
And most of all, I'd like the "appealing to a wider audience" junk to finally end.

better AI script is a good start. then more streamlined gameplay for arcade titles and more of them; cause i like arcade-like titles... ie Vanquish

then more nuanced gameplay, involving story telling and graphical overhaul, and advance's in interactivity in the game environment. tons of atmosphere.

then when it comes to what we see in the AAA titles now, more of that goodness, but with better control and again more nuanced game design mechanic, integration with story, and plot progression, set pieces ect and more games with a smooth and tactile and eventual peak in difficulty curve.

basically what the user i quoted below said. (PS: the lower ammo count [or ammo count in general] for enemies would be a welcome change of pace)

yeah, but it's a cross gen game. It looks amazing on next gen and i expect games like that to be possible on next gen. The graphics were downgraded for last gen

I'm all for practicall uses of graphics like Partical Affects and Lighting and Shading in a Multplayer shooter that features dark corridors (or foggy weather), smoke bombs or flash grenade or the texture and animation for games like LA Noire. Or Portal 2's Liquid Efffects. theres a bunch of other functions better graphics can have on gameplay, even tiny things like draw distance helps alot.

I really don't like it when they spend millions of dollars on that has no function beyond looking realistic..... I live see real sh!t every and trust me when I say its overated ! ;)

which is why I loved Avatar !

i don't, what i meant was that AC IV was held back because of last gen, therefore looked better compared to what it might have been if it were bigger

Action RPG, open world game with an encroaching evil that works as a hidden timer, it's not a time limit that matters too much, it's no game over if it runs out, but the game world slowly changes, becoming darker with certain areas starting with borderland villages which have to evacuate or become razed from the coming threat. You got to plan your journey, perhaps helping the villages hold out, escort the refuges, build and army ect.

Ok sounds a bit like Lord of the Rings, but much more interactive then any game before it. Think the concepts good because it would be a game you could play over and over, exploring different areas that were shut off from you as you spent your time in the east and never got to see the places to the west before they were taken. It will create a game which multiple climax possibilities depending on how you set your quest, especially if you were to allow players to set their characters traits at the start of the game. Be you knight, town guard, farmer or lone wilderness hunter, perhaps the fate of the world doesn't bother you, or your a diabolical necromancer more interested in understanding and controlling the threat then saving pathetic peasants. Perhaps it becomes a story of desperate lovers struggling to survive in a crazy time, and your quest aim is more of survival, trying to breech past the evil to a place of refuge where you can escape.

Basically, instead of giving us a story, it gives you a foundation and the story follows you.

Also don't make it look too much like Lord of the Rings...... no orcs, elves and definitely no freaking hobbits for Gods sake.

As far as new concepts I would like to see the action and adventure type of games to be mixed with RPG to the point of having controls and combat similar to games like ( God of war. Devil May cry.) but with solid RPG elements of like leveling up your character getting new abilities. Making choices that affects the game not just story wise either ( stuff that changes which a character or other characters around you.) I would like to see something like that.

Want to see more survival horror that try to be scary but good ( and not just action like the new resident evils) you don't have to have jump scares in order to be scary and I seriously think it's time for developers to realize that they are different ways to scare people just a few of them for example ( scary looking enemies. creepy music and environments. The thought of being hunted. ) I like to see a horror game actually have survival in it for once.

I also want to see more games like !BAY! (AkA bayonetta ) embracing the more crazier kind of goofy style of action being a big fan of Devil May cry. God of war and a lot of other great action and adventure games I want to see more of them have style to them that's really all I want to see is a good game that's not afraid to have style and personality with its characters it's music... And it's overall design

And actually would like to see games have actual Boss battles that are challenging because you have to learn how to fight against him/her or it.

A completely revamped football engine.

Maybe a more complex controller? More buttons? Maybe buttons under the grips?

Unfortunately the real problem with control innovation is that Nintendo tends to be the one innovating, for better or worse, while ms/sony are leading the pack listening to developers which continually make the same games over and over and over again.

I'm in favour of more analogue/organic controls than the Binary Button system.

I should've bought a Nintendo "but nooooooooo.... I'm lulu.... I just had to be mr. Hardcore" and now I regret it. :( ..... still, gears of war was fun. :)

I don't expect people to like Motion Controls by why do you want them to die ?

its just like that thing with Final Fantasy.... Why was it so important that it remained Exclusive ?

The strange thing about this whole "casual/hardcore" is that at this point in time the Nintendo stuff IS the hardcore of the bunch. The only people buying wiiu are really those that seek out specific experiences. It is the niche area of the industry.

I love the so called "Casuals". They understand gaming better than the so called "hardcore" gamers do....

They may not love games but they play them for the right reasons.... For Fun, whether its on the Wii or their cell phones or on Facebook.... Its always for fun (or what the call "just passing the time") !

They Don't play for the story.... They get why cutscenes are stupid and most importantly... They understand why I hate RPGs (the false sense of progression and the stupidity of Stats) and other complicated nonsense.

I think its funny the community likes to blame casuals for many of the things thats wrong with gaming but thats just not true. Wii Sports and Kinect Adventures for the Win !

Another thing about gamers is they're hypocrites... They jump at the oppertunity to defend it as Art but never give a reason or example that relates to gameplay..... They're mirroring social norms without even realising it... The games they believe have good storytelling deliver their stories the exact same way other mediums do..... I can't tell you many times this flys right over gamers heads when I point out cutscenes only prove how much little faith they have in the interactive medium.

I mean if you want to prove those "games are not art" guys wrong then stop using The Last Of Us as your rebuttal.

I must admit good graphical effects do help immerse you in a game, by effects I mean for example, I started playing red dead the other day and when you walk or ride your horse you can see the dust rise from your path and you see it drift off across tha plain, it's the little touches that count, and shows that a developer is paying attention to the little details.

@Ariabed

Those little touches differ from person to person, its highly subjective and I swear to god (whom I don't believe in) whatever your ideal version of an immersive game is can be easily dismissed by some jack ass who will say shit like "Holding a controller instead of the horses reins really breaks my immersion". I swear to god even if the Matrix was a reality you will still see this crap, infact if you remember the Matrix movie theres that scene with the Deja Vu Cat glitch.... Thats gona break the immersion for alot of people with Metal Connectors jammed into their heads, beaming simulated reality straight into their brains. You laugh... But I swear its going to happen.

Please Guys I'm sincerely begging you... For real this.... Stop with all this immersion talk.... Its unhealthy.... And its making me sad.... :(. Honestly... I'm being serious... I'm Begging you guys to just stop. :(

You're really proud of that dream eh ?

how can one be proud of a dream? i was enthralled by it, and the idea that i was thinking of about games being more scary or more "nightmareish" in it's setting, was interesting to me, and i thought it be interesting to post here, considering all i see posted here are a: ideas for what people wanna see in games b: talking about flaws and/or advances to be made upon a game one dislikes or doesn't "like enough" or c: talking about the industry and how things are always either failing or "in keeping" with a "good move" on so-n-so's part, for the industry. all of which is stupid... well, with that last one anyway.

what's your problem with my posting that dream thing? i thought people would at least be interested to make a comment about the GAME part of that post, and not the dream part... the dream things led to me having thoughts on games, since it was so alike, hence what i posted. why do you make it out to be so crass? i am maybe taken back a bit by it, because i don't see anyone else's posts getting the shaft, but then again it was probably a case of TL;DR which of course wouldn't surprise me. but that's my problem... what's yours?
