Dark Souls. Some of the best bosses and most memorable areas of the entire series. Though, that said, I think Dark Souls 2 is the most refined of the series. Lot of little things that make it so much more enjoyable to play over its predecessors.
Dark Souls. Even though the second one is more refined mechanics-wise, I feel Dark Souls is still the most balanced, engaging, and most challenging of the 3 games
Anyways, out of the Souls games Dark Souls is it. Notice I have not played DS2 yet, but DaS had the better bosses (when including the Artorias DLC) and the bettter level design. Most people seem to agree DS2 is a disappointment when compared to the 1st but I cant judge on that yet. Soon I will, I hope

Actually DS2 takes place thousands of years after DS1 so yes, they are connected. Demon's has a different world and lore than DaS so its another series

I'd say Dark Souls was my favorite.It was very fun,challenging(obviously),great adventure,great action.Dark Souls MIGHT be one of my Top Ten Games of All Time.I haven't beaten Demon Souls(maybe it might change) and Dark Souls 2 was great,but not up to the caliber of the First 2 Souls' Games.Oh and the Boss fights though.Ornstein and Smough,Seath,BED OF CHAOS!!. Lol Great game

I think trilogy is the wrong word. It invokes the sense that the three items are closely related from a story perspective. Demon's Souls is its own thing, for instance, despite being the basis for the gameplay for Dark Souls and Bloodborne. It's very loosely connected to its (spiritual) successors. Series would be the better classification, since it implies a connection while also recognizing their key differences. Sort of like how Final Fantasy is considered a series even though each game is radically different from the last.
Dark Souls and Dark Souls 2 are the only ones with any direct connections to one another, but that's only because they take place in the same world. If they ever made a Dark Souls 3 (and who knows if that will ever happen now that Bloodborne is a thing), that would make Dark Souls a trilogy within the greater Souls series.
Or better yet this could be a true marketing oppertunity for them, Pre-Order Blood Born and Get all 3 Souls games free..... Although imagine sheer amount of Smug this will generate for cows..... I doubt they will be as Gracefull as Sheep when Bayonetta was anounced for Wii U.

Bad world design, unnecessary new stats, faster weapon decay, almost non-existent NPC storylines, misunderstanding what Souls is all about (focusing on difficulty rather than fairness), bad healing system etc...

It's hard to not go with Demon's Souls for me. The originality of the first "souls" type game really intrigued me and made me want more. Although Dark Souls was still great, it was the sense of freshness from Demon's Souls that really made it something special.
Dark Souls 2. It's a much more refined and fun game to play. The one major issue is the weapon degrading. I found the Old Whip. Awesome fun to use on unarmed opponents, breaks after only about three enemies. That's horse shit.
