My most anticipated game has to be Turok 2 seeds of evil for n64. The combination of my yout (I was around 9)h, it being Christmas, and it being one of the first M rated games (that I remember) that I ever played. Anywho, I remember staying up till midnight just pacing in my room counting the minutes til I could play Turok.

How bouts u?

Hmmm that's a tough one... I remember getting an Xbox 360 just before Christmas one year, and my mum bought me Gears of War as a present. That was pretty exciting (and hard, having to wait to play it)!

More recently, I was massively excited for Mass Effect 3. Had the special edition pre-ordered for ages!

Probably Perfect Dark Zero. Some of the most fun I've ever had was playing GoldenEye 007 and Perfect Dark's multiplayer on the N64, so I thought it was going to be amazing to play the sequel online. Oh, how disappointed I was.

Also, as a kid, I remember being really hyped for Donkey Kong Country. Nintendo had sent me a Donkey Kong Country Exposed video tape which I watched dozens of times prior to the release and it looked like the greatest game ever. This one did not disappoint and ended up being the greatest game I had ever played.

I was counting down the days (literally) for Paper Mario Thousand year door. I remember bugging the guy at EB games multiple times if Paper Mario 2 came in yet on the release day, and when it finally did I ran all the way there, then home and played the game for a day and a half straight.

So yeah, TTYD. :)

While I don't think it was my most hyped game ever I can definitely say that I was super excited for DKC. I even have the DKC promotional VHS that had a studio tour from Rare and a glimpse of Killer Instinct at the end of the video (OMG!). Man, that was so cool.

Pokemon Red, Pokemon Silver, Pokemon Snap, Pokemon Stadium, or Kingdom Hearts.

First Gameboy games, first N64 games, and the reason I asked for a PS2.

Probably Street Fighter II for the SNES.

Back in '91 I was 14, and I would walk to a small comic shop after school everyday to join the crowd around their single SF II machine, and when it was announced for the SNES it was a dream come true. My local gaming shop got an import copy in a few months before its domestic release, and I pleaded with my parents to get it. They agreed, but on the condition I had to do yard work to pay it off before I got it.

Game cost over $100 back then, not including the famicom adaptor. I worked my fucking ass off doing HARD work (3 acre farm) for that damn thing, but while doing so I found it hidden in my parents closet and snuck all night play sessions for a good two weeks until discovered. They piled more work on top of what I would've otherwise paid, but man it was worth it.

Good memories.

I don't think it actually cost $100 msrp. I remember the price varying from place to place because it was so hard to find. I can remember seeing $120--believe it was purchased for myself and my brother for $80ish, though.

@Heirren: I paid over $100. Got ripped off, probably yea, but that's what they were charging and were the only place who imported it. At that time it could've been $500 for all I cared.

Maybe Fallout: New Vegas after having recently played Fallout 3 and having it unexpectedly turn out to be one of my favorite games of all time.

Then there's when I was really into Call of Duty... I remember being really excited for Modern Warfare 2. I even pre-ordered the "Hardened" edition.

And an even more recent honorable mention goes to GTA V. Didn't touch any other game for over a month once I got that game.

The answer is a three way tie between Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Final Fantasy IX, and Final Fantasy X.

If I had to pick exactly one, it would be Sonic the Hedgehog 2, because nothing really compares to the excitement levels you experience in childhood when every single thing in the world is brand new to you.

I had just started high school way back when the first Kingdom Hearts game came out, and the sequel didn't come out until I was in my senior year. So needless to say I was pretty fucking stoked to finally play KHII after four years of chomping at the bit! I can remember I asked my dad to pick up my pre-ordered copy for me at GameStop while I was at school, and later on that day I started coming down with something and I started feeling really ill... But at the back of my mind I knew I could tough it out and wait to get home to play KHII. After what felt like a bajillion hours I finally made it home and was delighted to see my new game inside a GameStop bag on my bed. I can still remember the fervor I felt when I peeled off the plastic on the case and started reading the manual...

Since I was sick, I ended up staying home from school for the rest of the week and I did nothing except stay in my bed playing Kingdom Hearts II all day!

Awesome times man, haven't been that excited to play a game since then.

I distinctly remember being extremely excited for Fallout: NV at the time of it's release. Despite urging from others, I never really took to the Fallout series until Bethesda took it over, and how could i pass up a new IP by my favorite dev, so i bought Fallout 3 and absolutely loved it. So, naturally, when NV was announced, I got extremely excited. I remember looking at all of the content that I could get my hands on, and combing over the Fallout wiki to catch up on the Western coast of the Fallout universe in preparation, spending hours combing through unrelated pieces of lore and information in preperation for what I was sure was going to be the game of the year. All in all, I really don't think it surpassed three, but that release always comes to mind when I think about which games really got me excited

Oh man, some good topics tonight.

I'm gonna have to go with the Christmas I got Pokemon Red and Blue versions.

It was a huge experience. I discovered Pokemon before a lot of people knew what it was, before I even knew what it was for sure, and I became obsessed with it. When I discovered there was a TV show, I was like, "Woah, that's the characters from the ads in my magazines, and the TV commercial with the bus driver! Does this have a show?" I tried to watch it every day, before it was moved to Kids WB and I no longer got it. A friend and I went to a store at the mall and they had a TV advertising the games and the TV show, and I stood there watching it over and over again, and I remember my friend was like, "Can we go yet?", but I just wanted to keep watching the poke' rap and seeing the animation.

Christmas day came, and Pokemon Blue introduced me to the deepest game I had ever played at that point. Me and Squirtle caught a Caterpie, and fought a bunch of bug catchers and youngsters in the Viridian Forest... That really is a memory I won't ever forget. And then for two or three years after that, Pokemon became a huge phenomenon and was everywhere. I felt like I was really at the beginnings of that fad, and I still feel kind of proud of that. Even though I went through a period of time between 2001 and 2007 where I didn't play the games at all, I still keep coming back to Pokemon because it is such a great concept.

I rremember the christmas I got my Super Nintendo and the intense wait that surrounded playing super mario world. The previews looked so much fun and I loved the idea of riding around on a dinosaur and eating goombas. I woke up at 3am that christmas and spent the entire day playing it, it was even better than I dreamed.

hell yeah, the wait for Sf 2 was intense but well worth it. I had a sleepover party when it came out( I was around 12) and we did not go to sleep, Killer instinct for SNES was roughly the same level of excitement.
