When I get stuck and lose patience I start looking for the game FAQs. A challenging game is one thing, but a needlessly frustrating game is an entirely different issue. Few things try my patience more than bad game design (are you listening, Rockstar?).

I just try it till I complete it, but once i used the walkthrough video when I was stuck in labyrinth of god of war 3

#3 Posted by Krelian-co (9947 posts) -

i continue and try again, if i fail more than twice or thrice than i look for a guide and try again.

#4 Posted by marcheegsr (2424 posts) -

Ill get frustrated and force myself to retry it until I pass it. If that doesn't work, I check youtube.

If I get stuck I normally check youtube.

Demand a refund or just trade the game in for something that will hold my hand until the end.

I'm joking obviously, I don't play single player games, only multiplayer. Single player is too easy.

Even on the hardest of difficulties?

Yeah it does suck, but if you are stuck on a puzzle, a boss or just wave of enemies do you take a break?

#10 Posted by Randolph (10342 posts) -

I take a break and try again the next day, a new day usually brings with it clarity.

I suppose it depends whether I'm interested in finishing it. I know for Mafia, I play it on Xbox, and its pretty hard. I can normally leave it for a few months, beat a level, get stuck, leave it for a few months etc... for some reason when I come back to it, it's suddenly pretty easy for one level, then gets hard again..

If there is a portion of a game that's difficult then I just look at the scenario from all angles and slowly develop a strategy that will get me past it every time I try again.

My strategy is to punch my Playstation in the face. Works like a charm, give it a shot next time you're stuck.

If I'm stuck because I can't beat a boss I start looking for ways to glitch the AI

If I'm stuck because a door won't open I go looking for a walkthrough after 20 minutes. Half the time it's a bug.

When I was younger my brother used to beat me in Wrestlemania. I cried and told mommy, and she demanded that big brother let me win. Most Recently I got stuck in Trine 2 and cried, nobody could hear me, :( .

usually take a break from playing for a couple hours and then come back

#17 Posted by foxhound_fox (86812 posts) -

Try... harder?

I come from a generation of games that require constant redoing of the tiniest sections of a level until you have it down perfectly.

#18 Posted by 123CABOOSE123 (24 posts) -

I find that taking a break and trying after an hour or so tends to work..... Unless I get really frustrated, in which case I don't play it for like a month. Then when I do play it I'm like "Bored...Too easy" xD

Youtube it, and try again later.

True, but games haven't become easier, it is just that you can choose the difficulty setting

Pause a while and think out a strategy. I also have a top secret strategy I often try first: turn off the music. Typcially in bossfights and other tricky sections the music is designed to stress you out. By turning it off it becomes a lot easier to focus on the action and calmly do the right thing. Has gotten me out of more than one tight spot ;)!

Well, technically, they have become easier, almost solely due to better design and polish. Older games from the NES/SMS and the SNES/GEN eras were ridiculously difficult because of glitches, poor design decisions, or just pure dick moves on behalf of the developers.

Now, difficulty stems from actual design choices (in most situations). But overall, they are easier because they have become more accessible and straightforward (that and lots of developers keep harder difficulties locked away until you beat the game once or twice).

Check GameFAQs.

#26 Edited by EnderX (42 posts) -

It depends. If it's ridiculous, I might just say the game fucking sucks and isn't worth my time. I don't mind re-trying things, but there were a few examples where it was just to the point of ridiculousness. For example, the very last part in Far Cry 1. Or the very last platforming section in Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands. Just saying. If there is a part in a game (and this is assuming normal difficulty) that is so hard that I can't get it in less than 10 tries, there's something terrible about the way it's designed, if you ask me.

I continue to play until I get past it. You learn quite a bit redoing it over, and over again.

Younger Paul had a bit of an anger problem from time to time. Not so much getting frustrated at the game, more akin to getting angry at myself for not being able to perform the task the game had set up. Younger Paul could be a bit of a baby.

Older, more enlightened Paul is a jolly fellow who doesn't let meaningless things like this get to him. He's used introspection and study of philosophy (eastern and western) to tame his angry ways and is now the happy-go-lucky duder you see before you. Yay.

Seriously though, I have been known to crack a controller in my day. So now, if something is difficult I step back, take a breath and try a second time. If I still fail, I leave it for a while. Because there is no way I'm going to improve when I'm already frustrated with a situation.

Keep trying until I either figure it out or decide to take a break. Whichever comes first.

#30 Posted by ShepardCommandr (2106 posts) -

If it's a shitty puzzle i'll just youtube it.Otherwise i keep trying.

If i get really frustrated i might punch the wall or something and stop playing the game.

True but that doesn't include all games now or back then though

I do these steps:

  1. Try and try and try
  2. Ask my brother how to go through that level/part (he usually plays the games before I do)
  3. Search online for help

Doesn't happen too often with modern games as the majority complete themselves almost. A few have left me seething with rage. I generally can get a bit compulsive if I do get stuck on a particular game and have been known to replay the same section for 3-4 hours until I can beat it.

I really don't mind hard games as long as they're not just using cheap deaths. I completes deamon's souls and i'm a few hours into dark sould and really like the death mechanic as it pushes you to do better next time.

Well that's a funny thing to ask because right now I'm stuck in the last battle against SHAO KHAN in Mortal Kombat 9. And after I failed for the 50 time, I calmly said this:

#35 Posted by CrimsonBrute (23068 posts) -

I continue trying a few more times. If I can't get past then I head on over to youtube or find a walkthrough.

#36 Posted by I-AM-N00B (410 posts) -

If I get stuck I just take a break from the game and go back to it at a later date, I avoid checking online or reading walkthroughs because I always end up accidentally coming across spoilers!

Rage like a bitch until I beat it is what I do. Currently I'm getting whooped by Persephone on God of War: Chain of Olympus. That unskippable cutscene before the fight isn't helping matters.

#38 Edited by Jacanuk (3612 posts) -

I usally do 3 things

1: Try, try and try again

2: Once the tries are getting tedious i take a break and do something else for a bit and then come back

3: if the above two doesn't do it i rage quit like a little girl and spend 3 days under the bed crying - Or on a more serious note, the top never fails so dont need a 3 :D

#39 Posted by touchscreenpad (220 posts) -

I take a break to regroup then try again.

While I regroup I review all my previous attempts to learn what or where I've gone wrong then come up with a new strategy then try it out.

If I get stuck in a horror game I pride myself not to look for a walkthrough...unless I've got no more pride then I look for a walkthrough.

yeah that doesn't help a lot, i hate unskippable curtscenes

depends on how long i have been stuck... if its been really long then i either ask a friend for help or look online for tips...

#42 Posted by HappinessForYou (26 posts) -

I continue it and try again with special stategies
