What are the least polarizing games of all time? By this I mean games in which 99 % of people who play video games agree are amazing, and there's really no debate about their greatness. Super Mario Bros 3 would be an example of a game like this, I believe.

I don't think so. While it is generally appreciated, I don't think it's the least polarising. There has been plenty of debate about the gameplay not being that interesting. Besides, it being an exclusive will always generate hate from people who can't play it (and are therefore overly critical). That might be unfair, but noone said polarising opinions are fair or reasonable. I would also go for older games like the aforementioned Pong, Tetris and Pac-Man. Those games are, at this point, more cultural artefacts than they are games. They are not questioned anymore. They simply exist as part of entertainment history. Picking an old game is good anyway, since there were no heated online debates back then.

I hate Pong.

Some games like Tetris or Super Mario Bros, I can go play them even today and still have fun. But I have never liked Pong. That game always bored the hell out of me.

I'm not saying that it's bad, I'm just saying that I hate it.

I feel like gamers have more solidarity on games that are universally bad. I don't think anyone agrees on which games are good.

off the top of my head i'd say secret of monkey island, super mario world, super mario kart, streetfighter 2, goldeneye, half life, gta 3 and vice city.

i would say half life 2 too - there was a time on these boards when it seemed like it was pretty much unanimously adored - but in recent years i've increasingly seen more and more people criticise it. for me it's one of the greatest of all time

I guess retro games like pong are kind of just assumed to be great, because there really isn't anything to get wrong in a game where you just knock a ball between two movable paddles. As for modern games, I want to say that the metal gear franchise is pretty much universally loved, but there are people who dislike its story intricacy and its played by a lot less people than I originally thought

I mean the original Super Mario Bros. and Duck Hunt were pretty damn popular. Even today they are thought of quite fondly. At least I think so.

That racing game with the physics mini-games... Flatout 2, I think. I never actually played the racing part, just the mini-games. Also maybe Morrowind? Final Fantasy VI?

eh. While it was a decent game I thought the gameplay was pretty boring and I just rushed from cut-scene to cut-scene. I think there a plenty of people who feel that way too.

There's a good portion of dedicated fans that thought the second killed the potential that the first one set up and that it dumbed down the series quite a bit.

I'd say tetris is pretty universally praised.

Tho I really enjoyed mass effect 2 and 3 mass effect 1 is the true classic.

Sonic '06 one of my favorite games of all time but people hate it.

I don't love it but Call of Duty anyone hardcore or casual would play

Completely agree. If the criteria is that 99% of gamers liked it, then it'll be a game from when most gamers were younger, and there were a lot less of us. Plus, it was a good game :)

Nowadays, there's such a wide gaming audience and so many subgenres that I don't think you'd be able to get 99% of gamers to agree on anything.

Portal. 007 Goldeneye on the 64. Bioshock. Street Fighter 2 Turbo. Psychonauts. It's the few I can think of that may be among the very few that haven't been mentioned. I'll await vetos.

I'd say Ocarina of Time. I'm the only person I know who doesn't like it.
