Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed is the publisher's first No.1 since GRAW 2.
Launching on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, Assassin's Creed has entered the All Formats Chart at No.1, replacing Activision's Call of Duty 4 and seeing off competition from Super Mario Galaxy on Wii.
The game saw most of its sales on the Xbox platform - 67% - and in the process became the second fastest selling new IP on an individual format and the third fastest selling Xbox 360 title during a week, behind Halo 3 and Call of Duty 4.
Despite a 33% drop in sales Call of Duty 4 is able to cling on to second place, ahead of EA's The Simpsons Game at No.3, WWE Smackdown vs Raw 2008 at No.4 and Super Mario Galaxy at No.5. Galaxy becomes the fastest selling Wii game, ahead of launch title The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. Sales on individual formats saw Mario Galaxy chart at No.3, behind Assassin's Creed and Call of Duty 4 on Xbox 360.
Of all the other new releases, Crysis is the only one to make the Top 40, placing at No.14. Microsoft's Big Button controller title, 'SceneIt?', doesn't make the best of starts managing only tenth place in the Xbox 360 Full Price Chart. It's even worse for Ubisoft's Rayman Raving Rabbids 2, placing at No.21 in the Wii Chart and not charting on the Nintendo DS chart.
With another batch of big hitters on their way this Friday, expect further action at the top of the chart - most notably EA's Need for Speed Carbon and Microsoft's Mass Effect.
